Bahrain Grand Prix 2021: Practice 1 team radio
36 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix 2021, across 15 drivers. 34 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Pierre GASLY had the most, with 7.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: OK, so 20 seconds before the green light. Copy. Are
Esteban OCON: we doing a stop?
Engineer: Yes please, green light any time now.
Yuki TSUNODA: For the mirror, I want more higher position for the left mirror
Engineer: Copy, we will adjust it
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Esteban OCON: Starting clear so far, lots of vibration, lots of vibration
Engineer: Ok understood, we'll have a look at that How's the vibration now?
Esteban OCON: Really bad
Engineer: Copy that, the default plan is to stay out at the moment, stay out
Engineer: OK buddy, I know the vibration isn't great, but we're just going to have to manage it for the moment, unfortunately. Copy that.
Nicholas LATIFI: It feels like I'm being pushed from behind at every braking, almost like the throttle. It doesn't feel like a wind thing, it just feels like I almost have some throttle stuck.
George RUSSELL: Copy. Reviewed front right tyre tap. Seems excessive.
Engineer: Copy, clear behind, feeling 2 out of turn 10. Same again, fifth gear, feeling 2.
Pierre GASLY: Front tires were not ready 2 in 1 and then I could not push at all for the rear so...
Engineer: I think we have to bear in mind the track temperature, we won't achieve the target so we need to do what we said yesterday. I know,
Pierre GASLY: but I think we can do slightly better, just to think for next run.
Engineer: Ok, we don't have much margin in the carriage so we have to look at the outlap, confirmed. And we have Russell pushing, he is 20 behind, keep your postures.
Pierre GASLY: Ok, just early feedback, I know it's only first lap but it does feel like I was quite down on power.
Engineer: Copy, Russell turn 12.
Engineer: Purple Default 3 Alpha X. Purple Default 3 Alpha X.
Engineer: Can
Lance STROLL: you give me the wind direction?
Engineer: Wind at the moment is non-existent.
Engineer: Strat 1, cruise mode 2, into turn 1.
Engineer: and charge button on, charge button on, need to cool down
Engineer: OK, mode charge and we will box this lap, we will need a cruise, so that's after turn 3, mode S, gear 5 please, nobody behind Now
Kimi RAIKKONEN: don't talk to me when I'm on my straight full speed, because I still don't hear you OK
Engineer: So repeat quickly Yeah, so it's mode S, gear 5
Pierre GASLY: Ok, similar to the test, I don't get DRS between 3 and 4 There's something we need to fix for the race I don't know if I get the DRS when I come out of the pit lane Yeah, ok understood, we have to fix it for sure
Pierre GASLY: I had
Engineer: a
Pierre GASLY: strange shift out of turn one.
Engineer: Yeah copy that copy that we are checking
Nikita MAZEPIN: very very poor no front grip and no rear grip to be very negative but a lot of mid-corner understeer and traction is very poor I mean the balance is a huge difference off from the test
Engineer: Did you feel any difference with the EB?
Mick SCHUMACHER: Yeah, I did feel a difference. I think it's OK. I probably over-reacted a bit in Turn 10 with what the rear did, but it was just like a weird feeling, so it's something I have to get used to, I guess. But the rear is definitely in a bad place right now.
Engineer: Can you use some full throttle on this in-lap? Use some full throttle just to test for the engine, guys. Full throttle, please.
Engineer: You have been very marginal on brake temps into turn one, just for info. OK,
Sebastian VETTEL: I'll try to do a little bit more.
Engineer: Yeah, copy that.
Engineer: How was the balance?
Fernando ALONSO: Very oversteering.
Engineer: Okay, understood.
George RUSSELL: 3rd to 4th gear, there's a lot of oscillations
Engineer: and turn 11 it looks like you overshot the corner a little bit maybe carrying a bit too much speed in so focus on the exit there
Pierre GASLY: Last sector was a bit compromised so I think there is a bit more to find there. Yeah
Engineer: I copy that, a little bit of traffic last corner as well. But anyway it was a good lap mate.
Pierre GASLY: In terms of comment, just a bit lack of rear grip, 10.8, and then a bit understeer, medium speed, 10.4, 10.11.
Sebastian VETTEL: We do a speed poke on the strategy and the start was very poor and must have stopped in the wrong place on the white line.
Engineer: Copy that.
Yuki TSUNODA: Like, come on, I go f***ing traffic!
Mick SCHUMACHER: Any comment to the lap? I just saw turn 8, it was a bit of a struggle
Engineer: for me. Yes, and did you have a car ahead? No car ahead, no car ahead. Ok, understood.
Engineer: Slash input, tyre into green P, tyre into green P That'll allow you to use DRS, first three laps Do
Sebastian VETTEL: you want me to use it?
Engineer: Yes, confirm, use DRS, use DRS OK,
Sebastian VETTEL: watch the dash, watch the dash For alarm
Engineer: Copy that, understood, carry on
Engineer: OK, Max. Ah ****,
Max VERSTAPPEN: I lost the corner.
Engineer: Copy, saw that. Box this lap please, box this lap. Recharge on.
Engineer: Ok Pierre, confirm we see an issue, confirm we see an issue, we are trying to find something
Pierre GASLY: Copy
Engineer: Brake offset 4. Brake offset 4. Diff entry 6. Diff entry 6.
Engineer: OK, recharge on, good job, recharge on and box this lap, cars might still be pushing behind.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: So ACS button, it's the purple one on the top right front of the steering wheel, purple, top right, ACS button off. It doesn't react.
Engineer: Good job. Excellent job. I'll get you some feedback on stopping positions at the end of the session. Well, we covered a lot of ground there. Excellent job. Well done. We'll get some comments when you're back in the garage.
Pierre GASLY: And that Ferrari mechanic was looking the other way. Yeah, I saw it. It was quite dangerous. I saw it. There was two of them.
