Brazilian Grand Prix 2018: Practice 1 team radio
50 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Brazilian Grand Prix 2018, across 18 drivers. 49 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Lando NORRIS had the most, with 10.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: The tyres have obviously cooled down a little bit, but the pressure should be good. So grounding will be okay, but just be aware that obviously we're on mediums and they may be a little bit cool.
Pierre GASLY: The mechanics can give me more space when I park, otherwise I cannot be straight, it's really tight, to give me more space.
Charles LECLERC: Ciao, Pitlane.
Engineer: Copy, Pitlane. Stop in front of your garage, please. You
Charles LECLERC: said stop in front of your garage, no? Yes. Yeah.
Lance STROLL: There's something moving in the petal bus.
Engineer: Okay, copy that. We can look at that.
Engineer: Okay Lando, you're currently the only car out on track so you can drive this slow lap as you want to.
Engineer: And Lando, just a little bit of feedback for you, be careful of early throttle pickup turn 4, and there was a little bit of tailwind through turn 6-7. And Lando, be careful of kerbs, especially turn 4.
Engineer: Okay Lando, that was a nice lap with a good improvement.
Engineer: Okay, so you can probably work your tires a little bit to get a bit more temperature
Engineer: How are the tires to start the lap question?
Daniel RICCIARDO: They're okay to start.
Engineer: Okay, so in that case you can afford to cool down a bit
Engineer: Target is clear, you can push.
Pierre GASLY: Steering is a bit bent on the right, right hand side down
Engineer: Copy, Pierre
Engineer: OK Lando, we suggest box this lap, box this lap, how are the tyres?
Lando NORRIS: Yeah, box confirmed, not too bad, really feels like they're going away a bit, but it's not too bad.
Nicholas LATIFI: Is the front right tyre temp correct? Because it's quite a big delta, front left to front right.
Engineer: Copy that, yes, we do think it's right, yes, and there will be a delta. Brakes were maybe not as hot as we'd normally have starting the lap, so standard cool-off, we don't need to do extra cool.
Engineer: And Grosjean on a time-lapse is 10 seconds behind.
Sebastian VETTEL: Yeah I can see him.
Pierre GASLY: 40-bit power flow, can turn one.
Engineer: Yes, we've seen it.
Engineer: They have
Lewis HAMILTON: backed up again
Engineer: OK Carlsen, just a reminder to look at your pit board please, make sure it's in the right place.
Carlos SAINZ: Copy.
Nico HULKENBERG: Like I said, struggling a bit with the brakes, the feel of the brakes.
Lewis HAMILTON: Gap. I need to make an amendment, I've got a lot of understeer. OK, copy.
Engineer: Let us know what you need.
Engineer: 160 kph for Cindia behind
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah but I cannot see them so... 10
Engineer: seconds behind Toro Rosso And next car is ASI... Ok I'll stop doing this I'm
Kimi RAIKKONEN: gonna vlog some of the other ones Ok, and box, give me box
Engineer: OK, so that's P1, 8 hundredths, Verstappen P2, he's on the same tyre.
Engineer: So he's still P2, half a tenth behind Hamilton, purple sector 1 and 2, he is purple in sector 3.
Nicholas LATIFI: I'm probably going to leave the open diff on for the whole lap after the first three turns just because I feel like I'm struggling with a lot of mid-corner understeer especially in the slower corners understood
Engineer: we're okay with that understood
Engineer: Ok mate, I got twice blocked by yellow team, you need to be a bit more careful Yep, understood, we'll pass on the message
Engineer: Okay, switch off, thank you.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Apologies. Did I collect him?
Engineer: Alright.
Lando NORRIS: It just goes straight into anti-stall.
Engineer: I can't, I can't go. Yeah, okay, understood. We'll just check it now.
Lando NORRIS: Should I turn it off, or...?
Engineer: Stand by. Okay, let's turn it off please, Lando. Okay, Lando, just stand by. We're just checking what's going on.
Engineer: OK Lando, stand by
Lando NORRIS: Yeah, same thing
Engineer: And switch it off again please Lando
Engineer: And that was on target. Currently the only car out on track to drive the outlap as you want it.
Engineer: Might need to put a little energy in the front right. Yeah, I can't understand why there's a car in the pit lane. Repeat. Just energy in the front right. Okay.
Pierre GASLY: Ok, do another warm-up, because the front wheels are not ready at all.
Engineer: Driver default, Alpha Zero Two, if you can do it before stopping, otherwise you stop on the mark and then switch off.
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: It won't let me do it.
Engineer: Ok, no worries, switch off.
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah, I jammed it out to the middle of the high speed. Yeah, he was at the middle of the high speed corner.
Stoffel VANDOORNE: Too much traffic copy
Engineer: copy
Engineer: So Verstappen's just completed a lap, he's just under a tenth faster, it's all in the middle sector to Verstappen, it's turn 8, 9 and 10, look to be the gains for Verstappen.
Pierre GASLY: I'll get traffic with Brandon Again, so much front lock
Engineer: Just be careful on braking, off-throttle and brakes on, you tend to cross over the two, so just be careful with that.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: Yeah, OK.
Engineer: I
Pierre GASLY: thought he was stupid
Engineer: Close the lap
Engineer: Yellow button is latched. Yeah,
Nicholas LATIFI: it's OK, I'm going to keep it on for turn one.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: OK reverse on, reverse on, looks like the tyres might be a bit past their best so we'll box this lap.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yep.
Engineer: Can we just do a quick flap adjust, it's still understeering. Yeah, AFR, copy that. Just call us two. Plus two, copy that.
Nico HULKENBERG: Do you want a bit of recharge? The SOC is very low.
Engineer: No, it's okay.
Engineer: OK Lando, I think everything is OK, can you comment please, any damage?
Lando NORRIS: I think OK, I went over quite a big curve, but yeah, I think it's fine, but your choice.
Engineer: OK Lando, we would like to box, we would like to box, stand by for more instructions.
Lando NORRIS: Copy, box to snap.
Engineer: We're going to stop on the marks, we're going to stop on the marks, and we're going to check the front wing. So just look for the signal from Carrie, if he's happy we'll go. And we'll just do a pull away from the box if Carrie's happy.
Engineer: And drive straight out, drive straight out. Do
Lando NORRIS: you know what the cause of that oversteer was?
Engineer: So Lando, nothing outstanding in the data, little bit of tailwind. We suggest not using the right hand toggle in that area. I
Lando NORRIS: think it was B3.
Engineer: Yep, so remember to reset before turn four.
Engineer: Most people have been quickest on their first time lap
Engineer: All right, so we'll have to work with this, obviously the space on track that we wanted Vettel's got
Lando NORRIS: Stroll just got in my way
Engineer: Yeah, okay mate understood
Engineer: It was 20 long.
Sebastian VETTEL: Okay, to me it looked fine.
Engineer: And Antonio, something I forgot, remember to say as well, Antonio pit lane when you just come in, so like this everybody knows that you are pit entry, thank you
Engineer: Smokebox entry, that's it.
Nico HULKENBERG: Ooh, that was a good one.
