British Grand Prix 2019: Practice 2 team radio
56 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the British Grand Prix 2019, across 15 drivers. 48 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Carlos SAINZ had the most, with 9.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Engineer: wind direction similar to this morning maybe slightly slightly gustier but no stronger slightly gustier but not stronger
Engineer: Do you want to adjust the front wing?
Carlos SAINZ: I'll try one lap and then I come in.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: Okay, you can go K2+, K2+. There's only a few laps on the board, but that's a really good lap.
Engineer: Okay Carlos, that's P3, you are clear behind, do you want a front wing adjust?
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, one turn and a half down.
Engineer: Copy. Can you see it on the data? One turn and a half down.
Engineer: and reminder, front 0, rear minus 5, front 0, rear minus 5.
Engineer: So we think in the truck is probably half a second off at the moment
Daniel RICCIARDO: Thank you. I have a pretty crazy amount of understeer on total. Feels like the front's really high.
Engineer: So 8 tenths to Valtteri, P1, in terms of sectors, 9 hundredths sector 1, 6 tenths in the middle sector, that's mainly turn 6, and then just 7 hundredths sector 3, and maybe think about a bit more diff support, entry turn 6.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Oversteer too far. I need something which gives me more rear support.
Engineer: I
Daniel RICCIARDO: have a pretty crazy amount of understeer on portal, feels like the front's really high.
Engineer: OK, understood. Can we have a few PU changes, we'll be PU3, position 14, PU3, position 14.
Daniel RICCIARDO: OK, yeah honestly I think I should box.
Engineer: Yeah OK, could also be the aero balance that we've taken off. What is your wood half aero balance at the moment?
Daniel RICCIARDO: Plus 4.
Engineer: Copy that.
Charles LECLERC: We can also pitch, there is something wrong with the front left, I mean, I don't know, I can try to do one more lap if you want but...
Engineer: Is the car okay, Carlos?
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, just a small off. No gravel or anything.
Engineer: Okay, good.
Engineer: Can you give us some balance feedback please?
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yep, yeah I have too much push on throttle. Most speeds, but more in the higher speed. Feels like the rear is soft and squatting and lifting the front.
Engineer: OK, copy that.
Charles LECLERC: We can also pitch, there's something wrong with the front left, I mean, I don't know, I can try to do one more lap if you want, but...
Engineer: I think it's worth trying, let's try one more lap.
Engineer: Remember you have to work these tires a bit harder on the outlook.
Engineer: Still very gusty out there, so tailwind out of 9, 25 kph.
Engineer: Thank you, so Valtteri didn't improve on his medium time, he's going again, so currently P2, just two hundredths to Valtteri, that was his medium time.
Engineer: So Carlos, last couple of corners look very strong. There is, compared to Lando, then turns one to, sorry, three and four look very good. Six and seven are similar to the previous run. There's a little bit still to find in 13 and 15. The rest of the lap is good. The last two corners are very strong.
George RUSSELL: What's happened there boys pull the clutch leave it give me some feedback if you want me to pull the clutch or not. Yeah
Engineer: Standby
George RUSSELL: Right, I've got an anti-stall now I'll pull the lever. Yeah, yeah
Engineer: Do you want to come in for a front wing adjustment, Max?
Max VERSTAPPEN: No, it's not that.
Engineer: Should we try it?
Max VERSTAPPEN: It's not that.
Engineer: Okay, you're just going to stay out?
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah.
Engineer: Sorry, repeat, it's not clear.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah.
Engineer: Okay.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: The seat is getting hot on the right hand side.
Engineer: For your reference, Carlos Longren is doing low 33 on option, low 33, Longren, Carlos. Press on hold, overtake, exit on 5, 4 seconds.
Engineer: Valtteri is still in the garage, he's been delayed with a car issue.
Engineer: I've
Romain GROSJEAN: got less creep than the previous towers.
Engineer: Understood.
Engineer: Keep trying to push in the right-hand corners, especially turn seven
Carlos SAINZ: 60 minutes
Engineer: Sorry correction your correct six is where you should push in left-hand corners Look after use the right-hand tires in left-hand corner
Engineer: Purple six, position three. Purple six, position three.
Engineer: Lucy, if you could give us a balance check, we'll be boxing the end of this lap. And
Lewis HAMILTON: go up on France. Take out the whole of Runway.
Engineer: OK, so Lewis has now moved on to the C2.
Max VERSTAPPEN: The radio cut out.
Engineer: Understood. Can
Max VERSTAPPEN: you repeat what you said?
Engineer: Yep, Lewis has moved on to the C2 tyre, the medium. So no further laps from him. 31.8 average.
Engineer: OK Nico, pace looks competitive compared to the McLarens.
Engineer: So, Nico is on lap 6, complaining about front left graining.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Understood.
Engineer: Okay, you can see left front tyre temperature dropping now, presumably because of the wear.
Max VERSTAPPEN: There's
Engineer: a
Max VERSTAPPEN: band opening up on the left front. Yeah, it's getting quite quickly along the rest.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Okay, switched off. Got a problem.
Engineer: Okay, copy that.
Engineer: Do you want to stay out Maxwell or Box?
Max VERSTAPPEN: Well, I'm slower.
Engineer: Yeah, but it could be good info. Stay out one more lap, stay out one more lap.
Max VERSTAPPEN: OK.
Valtteri BOTTAS: It's showing like minus 25, so there's
Engineer: a
Valtteri BOTTAS: buck.
Engineer: Two, just try to follow the cars around.
Engineer: Okay, virtual safety car max, dash positive please, dash positive, virtual safety car, that is for Daniel who has stopped, off track at turn 14.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I guess you want me to stay out with these tyres?
Engineer: Yeah, wall box once it's clear the VSE is ending, so stay out for the moment. Yeah, sure. Okay, in terms of lap times, Vettel first three laps, 34.0, then a 33.6, Leclerc on C2, 32.9, got himself down to a 32.1, fourth lap.
Engineer: Back to mode 6 as soon as you can back to mode 6. We've run out of battery for some reason
Engineer: Feels like wind has picked up again.
Engineer: So I think about just controlling left-hand side tyre peak temps in the first couple of laps
Nico HULKENBERG: Fairly low vibration on the left, on the front left.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: OK, Miko, the vibration isn't a dangerous level for us.
Nico HULKENBERG: That's
Engineer: an
Nico HULKENBERG: operation, an operation.
Engineer: Copy, understood.
Charles LECLERC: Are you sure that the tyre is not going too fast?
Engineer: I've got a very strange mark on the front left. Box now, box.
Charles LECLERC: Yeah, copy.
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, a lot of flipping right now
Engineer: Carlos, that's recovery from the overtake button usage
Carlos SAINZ: Front left starting to go
Engineer: Copy, so take care turn 9 and 15
Max VERSTAPPEN: The left one doesn't look very pretty.
Engineer: This is last timed, wind still very gusty
Engineer: Hey Carlos, that's the chequered flag. We're staying out for the launch. Stay out for the launch.
Engineer: Okay, to
Sebastian VETTEL: me there's an issue with the stock. Yes, doesn't work
Engineer: Okay Carlos, so we'll do a bike point find, it's the new style long bike point find, then three burnouts and a first gear launch from the left hand side. We'd like you to push on the in lap so we can see the deployment up to turn 10 and then open as much gap to Lando as you can so that we can do pit stop practice on both cars.
