Russian Grand Prix 2019: Practice 2 team radio
41 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the Russian Grand Prix 2019, across 13 drivers. Max VERSTAPPEN had the most, with 8.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: Ok Lando, so you were on target, initial throttle was a little low, you can turn the launch map off now and still need to learn 8th.
Engineer: Launch map off, a good warm up on brakes, get some temperature into this hard tyre.
George RUSSELL: Front left temp isn't working, what will the delta be usually? Front left or front right?
Engineer: Front left will be hotter by 2 degrees
Daniil KVYAT: Yeah, I had auntie's towel on the curb.
Engineer: And do not press recharge.
Lando NORRIS: I already pressed it, my bad.
Engineer: Ok Carlos, suggest we box this lap and do our aero test to box this lap?
Engineer: It
Nico HULKENBERG: felt like tyres dropping too much, also opening the lap, very low grip.
Engineer: Copy Nico.
Lewis HAMILTON: It smells so bad out here on track
Max VERSTAPPEN: We are grip, or like just internal restability, things a bit odd.
Engineer: OK Nico, could we have an aero P4 5th gear cruise at the exit of turn 10?
Engineer: OK, so currently P4, Valtteri P3, he is on the hard tyre though, to Valtteri it's 0 sector 1 and 2, 2.5 tenths sector 3. Leclerc is P1, 9 tenths to him, it's mainly in the middle sector to Leclerc, 5.5 tenths.
Engineer: And any balance feedback?
Daniel RICCIARDO: Mainly just low grip balance, yeah some understeer, but I think just more low grip.
Engineer: Ok Daniel, understood, similar comments from other drivers. Suggest entry 6, entry 6.
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah balance is horrible
Engineer: Copy, so box this lap, box this lap
Engineer: Recommend keeping some pace up during these slower laps on this compound actually, Max. Do you want one more lap, Max? Up to you.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Let's try.
Engineer: Yep, OK. That was a purple Sector 3 for reference. As you say, let's start the next lap, see where the tyres are in.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I think they are ready, the two slow grip.
Engineer: OK. Engine 11, position 8.
Engineer: Weakest turns at the moment Max that stand out are turns 10 and 13, 10 and 13.
Lewis HAMILTON: Sectors again
Engineer: Tower to Leclerc, four and a half in the middle, one and a half in the first sector, only half in the final
Engineer: OK, I'm going to take another slow lap, I still think it's worth trying one more time, so target plus 40, it's clear behind them.
George RUSSELL: AMA as well.
Engineer: Copy, there's only two cars on track currently, it's yourself and Robert, so improve sectors 1 and 2. Just off in sector 3 as you probably expect right now. That's a 37.3 and Robert a 38.0. Copy,
George RUSSELL: ride is terrible over the kerb at turn 13.
Engineer: And at 15 presumably. Is there a break?
George RUSSELL: Yes.
Nico HULKENBERG: How's that looking?
Engineer: So you are P8, 30 milliseconds slower than Perez, Gasly's done a 34.97 and then it's the Mercs etc. It
Nico HULKENBERG: was okay lap, just lacking a bit of grip, probably a bit of load, but the lap wasn't that bad.
Engineer: Yeah I think it's good lap Nico, looked like maybe just the front's on the edge of locking a few places, certainly sector 1, sector 2. Focus on recharge please, we need to box Nico because we're so far behind now.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, not a perfect last sector, but yeah.
Engineer: okay so we'll get a feel for where the tires are at front tires are cooling so try to maintain some temperature in those at this stage
Engineer: So you can go for single or double cool down? Double.
Engineer: It's mainly exits to Verstappen, mainly exits. Turn 10, biggest loss to Verstappen.
Engineer: Okay, Nicky, come with damp 10, please. Damp 10, that's at 8 o'clock.
Pierre GASLY: Well, that was really stupid. They closed and I almost smashed the front wing.
Engineer: Ok Kimi, target lap time on this compound around 40.5, 4.0.5
Daniil KVYAT: Again, the subject is still...
Engineer: So just two more laps on this tyre please Max, two more laps, so let's make them representative. So keep on top of your tools to help your entry balance. V-valve 4 is available.
Engineer: And Lando, you've been doing the right thing, please continue to stay off the orange curbs.
Engineer: Info Max, your brake balance offset is minus two.
Engineer: OK, Lando, like scenario 9, please, scenario 9, and then not urgent, white H7, position 3, please, white H7, position 3.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yes.
Engineer: I don't have the front end so it's front wing. Not for him. Multi-A rev. Multi-A rev. OK, Kimi, we're going for hard front wing. Question?
Kimi RAIKKONEN: One down.
Engineer: One down. Copy.
George RUSSELL: These carbohydrates are woeful.
Engineer: Sebastian lap time 40.1 with the soft
Engineer: Good laps good managing. How is the tire? How is the tire?
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: I think you're going about two laps
Engineer: Understood understood
Engineer: And Lewis Space 40.1
Engineer: okay this will be the last lap please max final time that and mode 10 mode 10
Pierre GASLY: F***ing hell, the f***er has 10 seconds gap ahead of him, and he's to break the balls.
Charles LECLERC: Falsignia. They are always using the DRS in the free practice. Two. Anyway, no problem.
Engineer: One
George RUSSELL: laps.
Engineer: Maybe two to go.
George RUSSELL: You always need to tell me when there's cars coming up from behind, ok mate?
Engineer: Okay, slow down, we have an issue, so slow the car, slow the car, we'll box now, box, you have Sainz and Perez behind.
Nico HULKENBERG: How was the pace on the medium?
Engineer: The pace looked good Nico, all I would say is that the field was a little bit strange in some of the performances. So Perez was doing low 39s as well as Vettel, a bit strange.
