Dutch Grand Prix 2021: Practice 3 team radio

43 radio messages were recorded during practice 3 at the Dutch Grand Prix 2021, across 17 drivers. Robert KUBICA had the most, with 6.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: Ok Robert, you will have green light in 40 seconds

  2. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: All right, that's it, OK. OK, good for me too. So focus on the outlap and on the brake dump and on your tires please.

  3. Mick SCHUMACHERHaas

Engineer: Okay, remember, mode push, mode push.

  4. Nikita MAZEPINHaas

Engineer: Now with these temps we can push again, we can push again.

  5. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: Ok Robert, you can keep pushing for the tires, all good on our side, so keep pushing.

  6. Nikita MAZEPINHaas

Engineer: OK, man, let's charge on, charge on as you cross the finish line. That big snap at 10, we see you turning from head to tailwind there. So we think that big snap at 10 could be tailwind related. How's stability otherwise?

Nikita MAZEPIN: Positive at the moment.

Engineer: Good to hear, mate, good to hear. You're clear behind with traffic.

Nikita MAZEPIN: So in between session 1 and 2, so a fine place. How's turn 3 at feedback, please?

Engineer: Copy, I'll come back to you. We can try tighter off 2 and then try higher on the banking at 3. So tighter off 2 and then higher on the banking at 3. And a bit more full throttle if you can.

  7. Yuki TSUNODAAlphaTauri

Engineer: OK, we think we can go offset 0, sorry, offset minus 1, turn 1, N3, and then go back to offset 0 after turn 3.

Yuki TSUNODA: Turn 3, negative, I already had a little bit of a

    Engineer: snap

    Yuki TSUNODA: in N3.

Engineer: Yeah, it's front lock recovery, we think, front lock recovery.

  8. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: Ok, the high speed was better, so now the main is turn 2 and turn 3 minimum speed, and turn 10 and 11 as well minimum speed, so that's the two main things.

  9. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: Ok Robert, mode charge and box this lap, so I suggest you practice a push-in lap. Push-in lap, you have nobody behind.

  10. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Anything to help from under rotations, turn nine?

Engineer: Yep, stand by. Opportunity, focus, turn ten, exit. It's a strong tailwind there and we'll look at the under rotations now. And we suggest left hand toggle for turn nine.

  11. Fernando ALONSOAlpine

Engineer: Good lap there for P1 at the moment, just a tenth quicker than Leclerc behind.

  12. Carlos SAINZFerrari

Carlos SAINZ: Oh, sorry guys. I don't know what happened.

  13. Carlos SAINZFerrari

    Engineer: You okay?

Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, I'm okay. I just have no idea what happened

  14. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

    Engineer: Red flag, red flag.

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I mic'd up just before

Engineer: the line. Yeah, before that. That's okay. Charge on inbox. Science is stopped in turn 3. He's hitting the wall.

  15. Lance STROLLAston Martin

Engineer: So the pit box is blocked, so you need to just park ahead of the pit box, just drive ahead of the pit box.

  16. Sebastian VETTELAston Martin

Engineer: Can you check the seat on the left hand side, upper side? There's a, I think one of these rescue belts that came loose in turn 9 and then, yeah, for sure didn't help, but yeah, was also a bit caught out by the tailwind in 10.

  17. Nikita MAZEPINHaas

Nikita MAZEPIN: Let's try and make sure it doesn't happen in the modifying terminal

Engineer: Copy that mate, 10 cars ahead in the queue, 10 cars ahead, the first of them are at turn 9 now Come out and just work the brake a bit if you can, work the brake

  18. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: OK, so we're going to run out of time to do two runs and get everything we want in, so what we're going to do is convert to a single run a bit like we did yesterday, where we start on the medium and then pit stop onto the soft, so I'll just give you a few more details in a minute.

  19. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Engineer: So Ocon and Gasly still to go. Latifi's in turn 9. It's a positive on the brakes into turn 11. Tyres are looking good. Latifi's just entering turn 11. Let's go. V-charge off before 13. Handbrake to open the lap.

  20. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

Engineer: So box box for a flap adjust, let me know what you need So compared to Verstappen you have higher speed at turn 2 and lower speed at turn 3 Lock probably was quite costly The flap angle is ok Copy

  21. Sebastian VETTELAston Martin

Engineer: So don't let the right hand tyres cool much.

  22. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Engineer: Ok Pierre, that's a good lap given the tyres on everything else. So let's box please, let's box, and we go on the next compound. People are already on soft. You can push in the in-lap, you can push in the in-lap. We don't need those tyres again.

  23. Fernando ALONSOAlpine

Engineer: I suggest trying the back left for turn 10. Back left for turn 10.

  24. Esteban OCONAlpine

Esteban OCON: I think I had a deployment problem in 7.

Engineer: Ok understood, we'll have a look.

  25. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: So currently we're one of only a handful of cars that have run on the soft. We're sat P4 with 11.1

  26. Fernando ALONSOAlpine

Engineer: OK, let's do a pit stop practice, so we'll stop for the C2 and go out again. Copy, box and go out again.

  27. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: Okay, we've got two turns to gain, entry and exit of turn one.

  28. Robert KUBICAAlfa Romeo

Engineer: And the brakes are cold, no one is pushing, so focus on your brakes please.

  29. Daniel RICCIARDOMcLaren

Engineer: So Daniel, time to find his minimum speed, turn 8. Maybe a more committed turn in turn 8 to allow higher minimum speed. Yeah, I had traffic. I had traffic there. Understood. And 1 tenth to find in turn 1. 1 tenth turn 1.

  30. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And Lewis, we think you maybe just go for a single call, just to keep the temps up for sector 1. So you've got Vettel behind, 4 seconds, he is on a lap.

Lewis HAMILTON: If I've got the time, I'll do a double.

Engineer: OK, you have the time, Vettel car behind, then Ricciardo on a slow lap, so Ricciardo, 2.5 seconds.

  31. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: I guess the last sector won't get any better than that in terms of a tow.

    Engineer: No, guess not.

  32. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And it will be HPP 8, position 7, so HPP 8, position 7, so sector 1, just over half a second to Verstappen, middle sector, tenth and a half, final sector, eight hundredths.

  33. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: So biggest loss is turn 3, so that's speed throughout the corner, entry, mid, exit.

  34. Sebastian VETTELAston Martin

Engineer: So still happy to let these left-hand tires cool a lot more. Over the line, can you do purple six scenario, position three? Purple six scenario, position three.

  35. Nikita MAZEPINHaas

Engineer: And back off is plus 40 seconds. Plus 40 seconds on the back off. Possible gravel exit turn 11. The number of cars will go through it before you though.

  36. Mick SCHUMACHERHaas

    Engineer: Massive tailwind there.

  37. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Engineer: Okay, so losses to Max, exit turn 3, just getting back on throttle. A little bit mid-corner turn 8, but obviously there was traffic, and then mid-corner turn 10.

  38. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Engineer: OK, mode 2 in the background, try to charge your battery. We want to test single cooldown now. It's not going to be easy obviously. Entry 8.

Pierre GASLY: OK, where are we now?

    Engineer: P10, P10. And it's still sector 1 where we're lacking pace, 3 tenths.

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I don't have it, can't do it.

Engineer: Yeah, copy that, we'll look at it, no worries.

  39. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Charles LECLERC: The thing is that they are staying in the line of the APEX, I can't see, the APEX 1, so they let you pass I guess.

  40. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Engineer: Ok, we are going to stay out to take the flag and then go around again for the proactive start.

  41. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, we're struggling with understeer, turn 1, turn 3, that's why in the last lap I can turn in. What's

    Engineer: up

Pierre GASLY: here? No rear support, turn 11, I can't brake there, turn aside, turn and we'll speed. And last corner the same.

Engineer: Yeah, copy that. So, personal view, I think we need to take some flaps off to help you. And we can use the tools for the first sector. It looks like it's working better with the push struggle.

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I don't know if it's the flap which makes the car oversteer in 11, but we can discuss.

  42. Yuki TSUNODAAlphaTauri

Engineer: More the 12, more the 12. Turn 1 and 2 were better.

Yuki TSUNODA: Yeah, why didn't you tell me it was that last lap?

    Engineer: We speak later.

  43. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: So we'll need mode formation, 3 burnouts, 3 burnouts, bite point and target 1 red and try to go as forward as possible, it doesn't matter left or right, as forward as possible

Charles LECLERC: Yeah, that's going to be difficult, I've got all the cars in front

Engineer: Copy, we've seen that, you can keep K2 on for all the lap
