Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2021: Practice 1 team radio
36 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2021, across 14 drivers. 32 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Pierre GASLY had the most, with 7.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Engineer: The track is shown slippery turn one and two. I think there's some oil dropped and dust from a previous series They put dust down in turn one and two Could be still showing red and yellows when you get there on your opening lap and radio check into turn four
Daniel RICCIARDO: Your volume is a little bit low
Engineer: Not sure what's going on with the brakes but they're pulling around and stuff. I think they're very cold so let's try and build some brake temp where you can and let's go GX3 as well, GX3.
Engineer: Ok Kimi, traffic is ok, everybody in phase, so mode race please
Engineer: How's the front wing?
Daniel RICCIARDO: OK, a little low I'd say, but give me another lap. But initial impression it's a bit low.
Engineer: And we suggest mode charge. Yeah, the Alpha Tower was going very slowly. Yeah, we've got sleep signature. So let's do a slow lap, it will help for the brakes, they are too hot. And mode charge please.
Pierre GASLY: It smells like something is very hot in the car. I don't know if you're gonna see anything.
Engineer: Okay, we're checking.
Engineer: Brakes will be on the cold side for turn 1, yeah
Engineer: I'm happy to cool the rears a bit and the fronts a little bit.
Engineer: Turn 4 and last corner, least of focus, turn 4 and last corner
Lance STROLL: Merckx man, no space
Lance STROLL: Merckx man, there's no space
Engineer: Copy that, Leclerc's pushing 15 behind Ok this is our last push so we're going to box, or do you want one more?
Lance STROLL: Yeah we'd like one more
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I think it's just flat there because at
Engineer: the
Pierre GASLY: moment it's quite a lot of understeer for me to exit
Engineer: Okay, and do you think we should go for more engine braking to help turn 13?
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, let's do it. Yeah, go for it.
Engineer: Let's go for one more push and then we box
Esteban OCON: I have a trace on the middle of my rear tyre, I'm not sure what it is, doesn't look like blistering but could
Engineer: be Copy that, is that rear right? Yeah Copy that
Engineer: OK Pierre, we're checking what's happened in the last corner, you can push in the end lap for timings please, box box
Pierre GASLY: I think too much for the rear tyres Should have gone forward because I started
Engineer: wayward the lap OK I'm pushing 3 behind braking turn 4
Esteban OCON: Vibration appearing.
Engineer: Copy that, we see a little bit on the front axle, how's the front right tyre do you think?
Esteban OCON: Now the front right is fine, I think it's the rear, rear right.
Engineer: Okay understood, we'll have a look at that, stand by. So again we can do a cool and go for one more.
Engineer: Okay, so we can do another, we can basically do two in-laps if you wanted to try attacking the pit entry and going back out and come in. So two in-laps effectively, what do you think? If you want to, yeah. Yeah, I think that would be sensible. We can attack the pit entry, stop in the box, lay some rubber and yeah, attack pit exit would be good for timing. So I think if you can push from around 24 round to 27 and then push all the way round to turn four effectively with a stop in the box, I think that would be good.
Engineer: So keep working on your brakes, we are good on tyres, we've got margin.
Engineer: Offset minus one and keep working on your brakes where you can.
Engineer: So how were the tyres on that first lap?
Sergio PEREZ: I was lucky mainly front. I think the tyres were in a good window.
Engineer: Copy.
Valtteri BOTTAS: This track is cool.
Engineer: Sounds like you're having fun.
Engineer: Lando, do we have any degradation on this tyre, i.e. why would we not go for another one? No. It's
Lando NORRIS: better to change the balance, just
Engineer: try and fix the understeer, understeer in every single corner. Understood. Do you want to just do that at a pit stop for front wing or is it lateral balance? No, that doesn't make any difference. Okay, so we're box this lap and this will be a live pit stop engine off.
Engineer: I
Lance STROLL: just can't improve that much yeah
Engineer: if you think the tires are done we can box and go to I
Lance STROLL: would like to try one more just
Engineer: to behind pushing a correction boss is slow behind okay Lance if we're gonna do one more push we need to focus on 22 and 27 more mid corner speed more apex speed but
Lance STROLL: I have to go slower for the tires man too much temperature Giovinazzi
Engineer: is pushing 10 behind Giovinazzi six behind we need as much full throttle as we can for charging as much full throttle as we can and charging Giovinazzi
Lance STROLL: can we do a double cool Giovinazzi
Engineer: behind now yeah copy Lance we'll double cool we'll double cool
Engineer: So box now box We will need mode formation for the lay rubber And try to stop a bit earlier so we can lay the rubber properly
Engineer: Daniel we have the option here to abort the lap after the final corner so I think if the lap hasn't come together brilliantly I suggest to complete the final corner and then box, just call the car from the exit of the final corner and box.
Engineer: Because of timing so we can do the high fuel at the end. It will be charge button off charge off
Engineer: The rear axle's a little bit on the hot side. The rear axle's a little bit on the hot side. Not cooling particularly quickly, so alongside pushing in turn 17.
Fernando ALONSO: Much better Coming up

Engineer: And Lando, if I were to say follow the dash, just check those new numbers.
Engineer: So that's checkered flag Lance, that's checkered flag, so we will go round to the grid for a start, we'll go round to the grid for a start.
Pierre GASLY: I feel quite a lot of vibrations, I think I guess from the tyres.
Engineer: Confirmed, confirmed, we can see that. Should be ok for the practice start.
Carlos SAINZ: Where was the start, the drop? It
Engineer: was spot on target. A bit too fast release, but then it was good.
Engineer: Max would like you to push please during this lap to the box
