US GP 2026 Race Results: Antonelli Wins in Austin on One Stop
Kimi Antonelli won the 2026 United States Grand Prix from pole by 13.078 seconds, stopping once while Leclerc, Verstappen and Hamilton stopped twice. It left him three points short of the title. Full results and the radio.
Kimi Antonelli won the 2026 United States Grand Prix from pole by 13.078 seconds. He stopped once, the three cars behind him stopped twice, and the win left him three points short of clinching the title in Texas.
Charles Leclerc was second for Ferrari and Max Verstappen third, a second ahead of Lewis Hamilton. It was Antonelli's ninth win of 2026 and his first since Madrid, and a week later in Mexico City third place made him world champion.
Antonelli took pole with a 1:34.035, 0.179 seconds quicker than Verstappen, with Isack Hadjar third in the second Red Bull. Leclerc and Hamilton lined up fourth and fifth, and George Russell, the only driver who could still stop Antonelli clinching, sixth.
Four drivers took grid penalties: Lance Stroll, Arvid Lindblad, Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoleto, who started 22nd, 14th, 20th and 21st.
A busy first lap
Antonelli led away while Leclerc jumped Verstappen for second. Behind them, Carlos Sainz was squeezed into the wall, Oliver Bearman and Pierre Gasly made contact, and so did Russell and Oscar Piastri. Russell was investigated for gaining an advantage at turns 12 and 13, and Bearman was given a 10 second penalty for the collision with Gasly, before retiring after 24 laps.
One stop against two
The leading Red Bull and Ferraris were the first to stop: Verstappen on lap 13, Hamilton on lap 14 and Leclerc on lap 15. All three stopped again in the second half of the race. Mercedes left Antonelli out until lap 24 and planned to go to the end from there.

"It's a good pace, Kimmy. Just keep it up. Just go as long as you can." The one-stop worked. With his rivals spending an extra 24 seconds in the pit lane, Antonelli never came under pressure on the way to the flag.
The fight behind him was for the podium. Hamilton's engineer laid out the target for his last stint.

"12 seconds to Norris, we need 38.5 and we are catching also Max, we are fighting the podium with 38.5". Hamilton passed Lando Norris, who had tried to make one stop work on a flat-spotted tyre, but ran out of laps behind Verstappen and finished fourth, 1.030 seconds short of the podium.
Leclerc was the quickest man on track by the end. His 1:37.976 on lap 42 was the fastest lap of the race, and he finished 4.4 seconds clear of Verstappen.

"Sounds really bad, I think we're doing damage." Colapinto retired his Alpine after 35 laps with damage from contact with Lindblad, and Bearman's Haas was the third car not classified.

Nico Hulkenberg was 11th, the last car on the lead lap, ahead of Lindblad, Bortoleto, Esteban Ocon, Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Alexander Albon, Sainz and Sergio Perez.
What it did to the championship
Russell's eighth was the result Antonelli needed. He left Austin on 365 points, 123 ahead of Russell on 242, with Hamilton 241, Verstappen 236, Leclerc 233 and Norris 211.
