Belgian Grand Prix 2018: Practice 1 team radio
26 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Belgian Grand Prix 2018, across 13 drivers. 24 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Lewis HAMILTON had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Engineer: Yeah, I couldn't get the DRS to work. Okay, yep, we'll look at that. And okay to push. Okay. Yep, we'll look at it.
Lewis HAMILTON: Right hand down steering is on straight
Engineer: Okay, copy
Engineer: I
Lewis HAMILTON: need to get the steering wheel straight on it.
Engineer: Yep, copy, we're on it. So just be mindful of the bump before entry to the box.
Engineer: So on the way out, bi-point find, launch, second gear, target 35.
Engineer: And a little bit more brake warm-up if you can, plenty of space behind so we can make a gap to Verstappen in front.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Okay, we have some rain in that area, where we do the start. No rules with sunny.
Engineer: Understood.
Stoffel VANDOORNE: It feels normal again, but just in turn 1, the brake went to the floor.
Engineer: Yeah, OK, Stoff, suggest to box this lap so we can check the car.
Stoffel VANDOORNE: It feels normal again, but just in turn 1, the brake went to the floor.
Engineer: OK, Stoff, we prefer to stop and check the data properly. OK,
Stoffel VANDOORNE: box.
Engineer: Tyres are dropping so you're on target at the front but minus five at the rear
Engineer: And up the hill please do the DRS on, off, on.
Engineer: We can take the slow lap, plus 25, drop the rear and maintain front if you give us feedback on the weather. No,
Lance STROLL: it's just spitting rain, very, very low in the last sector.
Engineer: Copy.
Lewis HAMILTON: Spits of rain.
Engineer: OK, copy.
Romain GROSJEAN: What do you see rain wise we
Engineer: don't have anything more coming there was some drops we saw earlier

Engineer: Valtteri on the super soft, obviously on the soft, Valtteri two tenths faster in the final sector, I think most of that was a tow. Valtteri braking later for turn 18, he's got higher apex speed in 18 for slower 19, looks to be a little bit better for him.
Engineer: Can we have tyre 7 please? Tyre 7, no DRS initially on the top of turn 4 and then halfway down the straight we'll have DRS open. Track is clear behind.
Engineer: Target plus 25 and just focus on dropping the rear temp. The fronts are in the window if we just push through turns 10 and 11 to maintain the fronts.
Engineer: Check out your thing?
Sergey SIROTKIN: Yep, all ok. Do you want me to box to check the tyre or to continue?
Sergio PEREZ: You have so much traffic there in the second and third sector.
Engineer: If you don't think you need the mileage, we could save the P.E.U.
Lewis HAMILTON: No problem. Box it now.
Engineer: Affirm, so box, box, box, box. If we can have strat 11, break magic off.
Engineer: And Lando, be careful of the front tyres especially, still cold. And recharge button before you brake, please.
Engineer: Stoffel back off, back off and box this lap.
Stoffel VANDOORNE: OK, box.
Engineer: Scenario 1, Scenario 1.
Engineer: What the f***
Pierre GASLY: is Troll doing?
Engineer: I put an X-ray completely blocking it. Copy. Pushing the X-ray behind.
Engineer: And Lando, let's do a launch, let's do a launch at the end of the pit lane please, so do another launch, no need for a bite point find, just a second gear launch, target 35.
Engineer: Please press and hold overtake from turn 15 to turn 17.
Engineer: Just
Daniel RICCIARDO: getting a bit of poor drivability on braking and downshift, just let me know if I can do something to help that.
