Italian Grand Prix 2018: Practice 1 team radio
22 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Italian Grand Prix 2018, across 12 drivers. Nico HULKENBERG had the most, with 4.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Engineer: Can you see the clocks where you are? No,
Daniel RICCIARDO: I can count
Engineer: Oh
Nico HULKENBERG: thank you guys. Is that Madonna or Kylie Minogue?
Engineer: I think that was Madonna.
Nico HULKENBERG: It does go by slowly.
Engineer: Quite
Nico HULKENBERG: lonely out here.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yeah, they're okay.
Engineer: No
Daniel RICCIARDO: problem for extremes
Engineer: Okay, understood So just remember it will be a ramp
Daniel RICCIARDO: Now I've got a problem Got a problem
Engineer: What with? Okay, should be okay So if you can we will do an engine ramp.
Daniel RICCIARDO: I got I got no power when I go on throttle. It's really low
Engineer: Mode 1 please, mode 1. Okay Ignore the ramp. So
Daniel RICCIARDO: I just stay in first.
Engineer: Yeah, stay in gear 1. Failed 1 fail, failed 1 fail You got Magnussen and Hartley approaching and then Sirotkin. So just three cars will pass you before turn 8
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yep, just let me know if you've got a chance to get off.
Engineer: Okay, you can go up the gears
Engineer: Ok, Pierre, anything to report? How is the truck?
Pierre GASLY: What?
Engineer: Yeah, it's pretty dry, it's normally would be already inters now, for sure. Yep, Verstappen is on inters.
Engineer: So other cars only doing installation laps, no one else has set a time yet
Carlos SAINZ: How many laps do you give me?
Engineer: Let's see how it goes, we don't really want to damage these tyres because they could be useful in P3
Engineer: There's no grip on the front axle, the front tire, so it's just jutter, but no grip. OK, understood, Nico. Be happy to box and we'll try and sort that out. That depends what you want to do, but I don't think I will go much faster, because it just feels pretty bad. Yeah, we have some changes that we can do, Nico, so I'd box this lap.
Engineer: Fernando a bit of feedback, the launch then was 33 and in terms of positioning you were 10cm long and 5cm to the left.
Engineer: And how is the balance?
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, quite neutral. And then I'm going to put the front grip on the breaker.
Engineer: OK, copy that. So Nico also complained that he was struggling with the fronts. So try to keep the temps up, please.
Engineer: We think it will we think it will
Engineer: How is the engine, Daniel? At the moment, seems okay. Okay, so it'll be reverse off, mode 7. Reverse off, mode 7, and an engine ramp. Gear 5, 120 k's to start please. 120 k's, gear 5, and ramp.
Max VERSTAPPEN: All good, just a little drift.
Engineer: Anderson, you can stay out for one more lap if you want to.
Lance STROLL: Copy that. The headrest is loose.
Engineer: Copy, stand by. OK, copy that, if the headrest is loose we'll box. Yeah, I need to box, it's really loose. Copy that, so it's sapping.
Engineer: Checo, how is the tyre? How is the tyre holding up? It
Sergio PEREZ: is not, the grip was not great But I see how it is now
Engineer: Understood
Engineer: Oversteer is consistent as you reach full throttle exit of Parabolica. Take care as you reach full throttle exit Parabolica.
Romain GROSJEAN: I think there's a problem with engine braking, something is pushing the car.
Engineer: OK understood, BC5, BC5 may help engine braking.
Pierre GASLY: The GRIP you ****! I have no GRIP!
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah I think the rear traction was a lot better after the cool down. It's the front tyres that struggle a bit with the warm up but the rear tyres were getting too hot.
Engineer: OK, box please, Max. Box.
Max VERSTAPPEN: No, one more left.
Engineer: Do you need one more lap? We need to protect these tires for P2. Do you want one more lap?
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah, I can make one more lap.
Engineer: Check out in cool, in cool, we'll do a charging lap, take a little bit of the damp patches just to lower surface temperature a bit but we don't need to do a very slow lap, it doesn't need to be very slow, just cool surface a bit.
