Bahrain Grand Prix 2019: Practice 1 team radio
32 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix 2019, across 15 drivers. Lance STROLL had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Nico HULKENBERG: So much boost for the burnouts, seems like there's some boost missing.
Engineer: Copy that Niko.
Engineer: Okay, so eyes on dash, tyre targets looking reasonable at this stage, maybe minus five on the rear
Engineer: Charge on. Mode 2 in the background. Charge on. Mode 2 in the background.
Alexander ALBON: I cannot change. When I put mode 2, the PU says mode 30.
Engineer: Charge off. Charge off. On back to charge on. It's because we were on charge on. No problem. Charge on now.
Engineer: Are
Lance STROLL: the rears too cold?
Engineer: Not really, not much, all tyres looked good.
Lance STROLL: Spanner hit the front wing I have to box, I have to box
Engineer: If nothing else I would just try brake balance rearward in 1, there's not too much rear locking, the diff is already open, so just try the brake balance big adjust to rearward for turn 1, see if that helps rotate the car at all.
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: It's more like a sudden thing at mid-corner, rather than when you're off brakes.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Ah, lost the rear suddenly a lot.
Engineer: Nervousness in turn 13 was because you left the left-hand side toggle on and that stopped the right-hand side toggle from working? Ah,
Carlos SAINZ: OK, copy. Yeah.
Engineer: So just, once you've done the throttle ramps, go slow so we can clear Ramon. Sorry about that.
Engineer: I seem to be struggling on power, do I need to go back on the H position change? Yes please, so it's white multi H8 position 3 please, multi H8 position 3.
Engineer: Something's wrong, I'm in ghost start, it's pitting them off. I can't accelerate. OK, it's gone high temp, it's a high temp issue, so try as best you can to get the speed up with as little revs as you can.
Engineer: Can
Pierre GASLY: you check what's going on with the engine braking?
Engineer: It's
Pierre GASLY: like a massive vibration through the corner makes the car super oversteery at the apex.
Nico HULKENBERG: Mark, are we playing a high fuel for the end of P1?
Engineer: That's what we plan at the moment, but with the track temperatures, we might need to reconsider. But we can change our minds later, one way or the other.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: Clear right is not working. Temperature 2.
Engineer: Copy Antonio.
Engineer: and Carlos with the track evolution and the compound land I found two seconds
Engineer: Okay Carlos, that's P7. Good job. Recharge on and you have a 18 second gap behind.
Engineer: No
Lewis HAMILTON: one's got quicker on their second lap, correct?
Engineer: I haven't got any info on that at the moment.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah, the McLaren almost hit me on the side.
Engineer: Okay, copy that.
Engineer: Ok Kimi, it will be mode charge. Let's cool down these tires please.
Engineer: And Valtteri, there's currently tailwind into the last corner, so think about it.
Engineer: Russell one second, no
Nico HULKENBERG: he went off, he backed off, okay in
Engineer: that case Kubica six seconds behind is your threat
Charles LECLERC: We can box at the end of this lap.
Engineer: OK, you can finish it if you want, if not, come back, let me know.
Engineer: So Carlos, plan is to open a lap and box at the end of it. Obviously if the Delta looks good and you want to complete the lap, just let me know.
Carlos SAINZ: Copy, want
Engineer: to try apart from the flap? No, happy just to try the flap, happy just to try the flap. Track position is good.
Engineer: How is the balance on that lap, Lance? Yeah,
Lance STROLL: quite bad. I mean, I've understeered, made a corner, and then...
Engineer: Copy that.
Engineer: So again cool raise, maintain front temperature, cool raise.
Engineer: And let's leave recharge on please, let's leave recharge on
Lando NORRIS: Leave it on or leave it on?
Engineer: We'll leave it on for the formation lap which is what this is
Engineer: The tires
Lance STROLL: are just gum on the rear. You're telling me to stay in front of Norris, but I can't go that quick or else the tires won't be good.
Alexander ALBON: The car is changing so much from that one change, where is Robert now?
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah, the f***ing Toro Rosso just pushed me completely off the surface.
Engineer: Okay, that was Albon, alright. F***ing
Kimi RAIKKONEN: flying.
Engineer: Okay, talk to me.
George RUSSELL: Yeah, all good mate. Okay.
Nico HULKENBERG: There's
Engineer: cars
Nico HULKENBERG: everywhere. Just touching a Giminanzi actually.
Engineer: I have no idea what he was playing out there.
Engineer: Ok, any
Daniel RICCIARDO: balance comments already? At this stage,
Engineer: I
Daniel RICCIARDO: struggle to pick any positives.
