Brazilian Grand Prix 2019: Practice 3 team radio
39 radio messages were recorded during practice 3 at the Brazilian Grand Prix 2019, across 14 drivers. Carlos SAINZ had the most, with 8.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: 5.5 please and track should be green
Engineer: You're clear behind we can do CSL 6 sixth gear and then check DRS CSL 6 and check DRS
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: DRS didn't work.
Engineer: Okay, understood. We'll double check. I think it didn't get the zone. So you're okay for GX3. You can go multi GX3. And it's okay that DRS didn't work. It's just because it was an outlap. So we'll be fine. Sorry about that.
Engineer: OK, during the pit lane please, in pit lane, just stay within the white lines, do not shortcut the pit lane entry for the moment, thank you. When you stop on the marks we'll have a pre-start rev check before you switch off, so mode 3 and recharge off for that.
Engineer: Okay, Robert, we're good to stay out, so just go push, go push.
Engineer: Okay, we'll take a cool down there, target plus 15.
Engineer: So it's clear behind. Only you and Kubica have set lap times at the moment. Comparing to yesterday then turn four and the final corner look pretty good. You're actually quicker in the final corner than on the soft tyre run yesterday.
Engineer: Do you want one more lap before we play with the setup? Yeah,
Carlos SAINZ: one more lap.
Engineer: Copy. Last lap there was a little bit more tailwind, can't explain that with traffic, it's just a change in ambient conditions. Stronger tailwind turn 6 and 7.
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, I felt it. Car quite neutral through there and overheat
Engineer: a
Carlos SAINZ: bit the rear before the second sector.
Engineer: We added wing or not? Only a small amount, obviously a little bit of track correction today on top of the other changes.
Engineer: Oculus, that's at P1, 1 tenth to Vettel P2, your purple sector's at 1 and 2, to Vettel it's down tenth and a half, sector 3, that's mainly straight line speed, and you've still had the diff magic on for turn 12, that's just information. Is
Lewis HAMILTON: it affecting turn 12? It
Engineer: will affect turn 12, so if you want to cancel it on the run up to there.
Sebastian VETTEL: I don't know what Magnussen was doing
Engineer: I'll put you P1. Two tenths clear of Hamilton at this stage.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, a lot of others there copy
Alexander ALBON: Balance is quite strange.
Engineer: Feels
Alexander ALBON: like I'm getting a lot of washout mid-corner. Feels like the tyres are overheating really quickly on the fronts.
Daniil KVYAT: No, this is impossible with the brakes like this
Engineer: Silver stopping P1 9.0, Lewis P2 9.4
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, I need to get the front warm-up done, so the launch is not ideal, we can do it at the soft at the end of the session.
Engineer: Okay, as I say, front warm-up looks difficult on the soft as well Carlos, I prefer to do it now.
Romain GROSJEAN: Okay, Perez just put me off the track.
Engineer: We saw it mate, we saw it.
Carlos SAINZ: How are we on timing?
Engineer: Carlos, my feeling is this setup change isn't an improvement and we should allow time to go back for the soft tyre. You're currently P15, the only medium runner, all other cars on soft. If you want to keep this, then we can afford one more lap. I want to try
Carlos SAINZ: something.
Engineer: OK, copy. So one more lap, box if you're not faster. I
Carlos SAINZ: just feel we are very weak in turns 6 and 7, but I don't know, I'm interested maybe a bit in that.
Engineer: And how was the balance on that lap, you clear from traffic behind at the moment?
Daniel RICCIARDO: It changed quite a lot from the first, I'd say still similar limitations to the front, but very different to the first lap.
Engineer: Think it might make sense to go for a double cool down. What do you think? I'll leave it to you. What do you think? Yeah, double cool down
Engineer: And box now boxed, and we will adjust the front wing.
Charles LECLERC: Copy.
Engineer: Just to confirm, plus 4?
Charles LECLERC: Plus 4.
Engineer: Copy understood, track is clear behind.
Engineer: OK, so that's P1 at the moment, and 3 tenths, just under 3 tenths, still a clerk P2.
Engineer: Okay, so Lewis P18.3, you are currently P5.
Engineer: And Lando, how's the front wing?
Lando NORRIS: It's fine.
Engineer: okay good warm-up on brakes
Engineer: Carlos, that is currently P7. You are 3 milliseconds behind Lando.
Romain GROSJEAN: Yeah, that was a weird snap
Charles LECLERC: Oh, what was doing science we nearly crashed
Engineer: Okay, cool the tyres Max, cool the tyres. Okay, that's P2, a couple of hundredths behind Lewis. You have purple sector 1, two tenths down in sector 2, and similar final sector.
Lando NORRIS: Why does it go red straight away? I thought we spoke about that leaving it green.
Engineer: Yep, okay, understood, don't stress.
Nico HULKENBERG: There was some stone or block in the middle of the pit exit, I could feel it hit on my ass.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Losing a bit of time on the back straight, the last one.
Engineer: Yeah we see that, it's just a KD rate. Engine 5 position 2 please, engine 5 position 2.
Engineer: OK Lewis, so there's repulsive debris on the pit exit, middle of the road, so if you just stay to the left hand side.
Engineer: Okay Carlos, we're currently P10, currently P10, Kvyat, fastest midfield car, 109.4 Copy
Carlos SAINZ: Do
Engineer: you want one more attempt, Carlos, one more attempt?
Carlos SAINZ: There's not much more in this tyre, but if we want to practice something, any suggestion?
Engineer: So I think the only question is whether you can gain time in entry
Lewis HAMILTON: Hell of a big drop in power. Drive out Fizz. Copy, have a look.
Engineer: so I think the only question is whether you can gain time in entry still of to high speed turn six and seven it looks like your car is a bit lower apex speed as well so you break the same point but harder than Lando lower apex speed and a bit more understeer so I wonder if you try and v-style that corner a little bit more it may come to you
Lewis HAMILTON: That was the stop sign, wasn't there?
Engineer: Yeah, copy noted. Lewis just noticed that.
Lewis HAMILTON: So we'll correct that. Was
Engineer: that
Lewis HAMILTON: on target?
Engineer: AFM you were on target, this time target deeper.
Lewis HAMILTON: Better
