Japanese Grand Prix 2019: Practice 2 team radio
38 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the Japanese Grand Prix 2019, across 16 drivers. Carlos SAINZ had the most, with 6.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: A reminder to work the brakes.
Engineer: And Lando you are target plus two initial throttle a bit low and mind the blip
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: A lot of front.
Engineer: Like, too much. You have too much now, yeah, okay. There was some tailwind into turn one, but yeah, okay, we can work on that. Everywhere too much front? I mean, more so in turn one and two, but the rest of the lap was pretty fronty also. Okay, understood. We'll see what we can do.
Engineer: Focus on front tires, we can take it easy. Target plus 25 on the dash, take it easy first sector, and then we can push a bit more last sector and brakes on front tires. Ok, main difference was turn 3 and turn 8, and we lost a big chunk in the straight lines, we are trying to understand why.
Carlos SAINZ: Sticky downshift panel, it's okay for the moment, we'll change it for the next run
Engineer: Copy
Engineer: Ok Carlos, that's P1 and you are purple in sector 1.
Alexander ALBON: This seat feels so big, can we change it after this one?
Engineer: OK copy, we can.
Engineer: Let me know if you think there's another lap, otherwise we're going to box. That was purple sector 3. There
Valtteri BOTTAS: is another lap, but only with double cool down, so...
Engineer: Yeah, we don't have enough fuel for that. OK, box. Box, box.
Lewis HAMILTON: I need a double call.
Engineer: Negative Lewis, only have time for one call.
Lewis HAMILTON: Right, let's inbox then.
Engineer: Can
George RUSSELL: you see anything on the data? I'm still feeling the same a lack of rear load everywhere
Engineer: Like
George RUSSELL: I said, this is not a balance issue. This is just a lack of rear downforce Wasn't there in FP1
Engineer: Okay, we are looking Currently all okay from our side
George RUSSELL: Okay, we'll prepare a setup change to try and increase the rear load a bit through those corners. Yeah, we're already looking at it
Engineer: Okay, you're in sync with Raikkonen and Perez behind, Raikkonen three seconds on his load up It will be clear ahead
George RUSSELL: The velcro on the radio mic has come off again, so it's flapping around.
Engineer: Copy
George RUSSELL: that.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Ah yes, it doesn't move out of the way.
Engineer: Any spots of rain about, Max? No, that's all good. Nothing.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Neffert, I don't like the mediums, I cannot cool them down enough for the bridge. In the morning it was possible, not anymore.
Engineer: So weave in the straight and open the gap, Hulkenberg is 11 in front
Engineer: We have an issue, slow in, slow in, slow down, slow down. Okay, go as slow as you can.
Engineer: OK, Niko, anyhow, Danny as reference, he's still doing low 35s on the medium, Vettel on used medium doing mid 35s.
Charles LECLERC: Sorry to say, but Lance was very slow in the last sector. Copy.
Sebastian VETTEL: Rear tires are going off.
Engineer: Copy that, entire saving for sector, focusing turn 3 turn 8.
Charles LECLERC: Any targets, lap times?
Engineer: 35.0 target lap time, 35.0
Engineer: And fail 7E off please.
Nico HULKENBERG: There's some low ability problems.
Engineer: Copy that Niko, that's the point of this test.
Engineer: And clutch position was deep five percent
Engineer: and brake balance plus one suggestion lap times okay
Engineer: There will be one time-lapse with these tires.
Engineer: We see deck on the Ferraris after six laps
Max VERSTAPPEN: Did you get my message?
Engineer: About the front end?
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yep.
Engineer: Yep, understood. Thank you.
Engineer: Okay Lando, please do not do that downshift again.
Engineer: Check out, we don't have many references to Kvyat, who we often expect to be quick in FP2. We have exactly the same pace through the run. Your deck is slightly lower. The pace looks similar to the Renault's from earlier.
Nico HULKENBERG: Did you actually want me to go behind Quijot there?
Engineer: Well, I was just trying to give you gaps that might help, but with so much traffic on the roads, it's impossible. Russell, one second behind.
Nico HULKENBERG: They're small, those gaps, as you can see.
Engineer: Suggestion to stay in 7th gear on the run up to turn 16, and how is the balance? Yeah, balance,
Romain GROSJEAN: tiny
Engineer: bit understeery, but with the rear being not amazing either, but maybe a little bit understeery, yeah. Copy that.
Carlos SAINZ: How is the pace?
Engineer: Pace still very solid, Carlos. Pace very solid.
Engineer: Yeah Carlos, pace similar to Verstappen at high fuel, looks very competitive.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Can we stop after I finish this lap and stop and try the other front brake?
Engineer: Standby. OK Kimi, yes it is possible, yes it is possible with the same tyres, so just the nose change. Yeah. You want to do it now?
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah, why not, we'll see. OK, box then, box.
Engineer: Lewis will go for box end of this lap, and we'll do a front wing change just to get data on the other spec. At
Lewis HAMILTON: this time you need to take out the whole front wing.
Engineer: So watch the weighbridge, and then the pit stop. And we'll go for the nose change, so don't come up on the weight revs.
Engineer: Carlos stop the car no launch. Stop the car. Okay, it's good to go. It's good to go. It's good to go. No problem Apologies Carlos, so where there's a bit of traffic where we are. We thought we had a problem at the pit stop. Everything is okay
Sebastian VETTEL: Because we seem to be in a bit of a poor spot with cars ahead.
Engineer: That's the checkered flag, okay to push on the inlet
Engineer: Good session Valtteri. I'm a fan of a two-day weekend. Everybody on track look pretty good. People going for it.
