Mexican Grand Prix 2019: Practice 1 team radio

53 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Mexican Grand Prix 2019, across 18 drivers. Nicholas LATIFI had the most, with 7.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Kimi RAIKKONEN: The steering is not straight.

    Engineer: Ok, copy that.

  4. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: Okay, and just remember to look after these tires through the high-speed corners since we may be using them tomorrow, please.

  5. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Pierre GASLY: Ok, everything good, just the track is really, really poor grip.

Engineer: Yeah, copy that, and sorry we didn't get the inter on the car for the install, we'll correct it for the future.

  6. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: Copy that Nico. So stopping on the marks for a nose change and then a repeat lap please.

  7. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Carlos SAINZ: I couldn't synchronize first gear, I don't know why.

Engineer: Okay, copy. Stop on the marks.

  8. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: Okay, another reminder for firm use of the brakes and aero P4 5th gear cruise exit turn 3 to turn 4.

  9. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And box box passing through the pit lane for another start

  10. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

    Lewis HAMILTON: Check it's dry.

    Engineer: Affirm.

  11. Daniel RICCIARDORenault

Engineer: OK, and recharge on, and then after turn 3 will be aero cruise please, so will be aero P4, 5th gear after turn 3.

  12. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: OK, Nicholas, we'll drive straight up. Track is clear.

  13. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: Okay, Nicholas, just give us some feedback on the track conditions.

Nicholas LATIFI: Yeah, it's still very patchy. I wouldn't say there's a consistent dry line, but for the most part it is dry.

  14. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

Engineer: And then straight out, start working the brakes.

  15. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Engineer: And Carlos, a lot of cars leaving the pit lane now.

  16. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

Engineer: Let us know how the conditions are.

    Valtteri BOTTAS: Slippery, but drivable.

  17. Daniil KVYATToro Rosso

Engineer: Target is plus 10 at the front, plus 10 at the rear if you can. Nobody behind you.

  18. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Engineer: Tire temperatures are on the lower side, warm-up lap will definitely help here.

Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, agreed. There's zero greed.

  19. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

Engineer: If you need consecutive skid push in strat 5, just be careful on the kerbs.

  20. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: It's all over the place.

  21. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: Okay Nicholas that's good let's take a quick cool down lap so target plus 15 maintain front temperature.

  22. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Carlos SAINZ: Yes, some graining opening up.

Engineer: Copy. Carlos, is that front left?

Carlos SAINZ: Correct. There's no understeer in the car, it's just the graining. I don't know why.

    Engineer: Understood.

  23. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

    Engineer: The

Nicholas LATIFI: rears are definitely starting to overheat now during that lap. Look out for stroll. Copy

    Engineer: that.

  24. Sebastian VETTELFerrari

    Sebastian VETTEL: Okay, box.

Engineer: Copy, box. That's a flat spotted. That'll be the test.

  25. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Locked up, massive lock up, too much vibration.

Engineer: Yep, we are boxing this lap, boxing this lap.

  26. George RUSSELLWilliams

George RUSSELL: that left front looks like cheese

  27. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: OK Nicky, so we'll drive straight out. Track is clear.

  28. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: OK, so we're expecting a good step in track, so over a second improvement from when we last ran.

Nicholas LATIFI: Did you say half a second of improvement?

    Engineer: Over one second.

  29. Nicholas LATIFIWilliams

Engineer: Okay, Nicholas, we'll take a cool down there. We'll target plus 20. We'll maintain that front temperature and just try and drop the rears. I

Nicholas LATIFI: don't know where I hit some kind of wet patch at the turn 12 to completely put the car offline.

  30. Romain GROSJEANHaas

Engineer: OK, we've picked up a

Romain GROSJEAN: fair bit of understeer here.

    Engineer: Copy, we see it.

  31. Lance STROLLRacing Point

    Engineer: Sorry.

  32. Lance STROLLRacing Point

Engineer: Is it possible to drive back, Lance, or is it too bad? Can you get into the pits, nice and slow, into the pits, into the pits, into the pits.

  33. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Charles LECLERC: I was pretty sure he crashed

Engineer: in the last corner, but where did he crash? So he crashed in the last corner, but then he was able to continue and he came back.

  34. Kimi RAIKKONENAlfa Romeo

Engineer: Okay Kimi, we will have green light in one minute, one minute for the green light.

  35. Antonio GIOVINAZZIAlfa Romeo

Antonio GIOVINAZZI: Yo, the front left is really cold compared to the right one.

    Engineer: Copy.

  36. Kimi RAIKKONENAlfa Romeo

Kimi RAIKKONEN: What is the McLaren doing? Because we're supposed to leave in the position we come in.

Engineer: Yeah, copy that. You're right here.

  37. Sebastian VETTELFerrari

Sebastian VETTEL: Okay, it was a mess in the last corner

  38. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Engineer: And Carlos, I'd like to complete this lap to get the aero data on the brake duct wing.

  39. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, what a mess. Sebastian, what the f*** is he doing? Everybody is waiting and he wants to go by. Unbelievable.

  40. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I'm still struggling low speed, so do you have any suggestions?

Engineer: We can go up on the different trees, that's the only tool we have in the car.

  41. Daniil KVYATToro Rosso

Engineer: OK, Dani, if you want, we can stay out, do one more push and then go sustainable. Are you happy?

Daniil KVYAT: Yeah, I don't know how is it looking, the relative competitiveness, but I'm not happy with the rear. So if it's normal right now, then we stay out. I assume everyone is struggling with the same issue.

Engineer: OK, Dani, we are at P13 at the moment. We can, all others are on option, most of them, so we are not looking too bad. Our suggestion is to prioritise exit in the last sector and we'll be better. So

Daniil KVYAT: the entry to turn 13 is OK, and turn 12 as well?

Engineer: Entry is fine, just get some power earlier last corner. Earlier last corner is the target. OK, copy. Position is good, you can push.

  42. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Engineer: That was a good one

  43. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Engineer: Brake balance, two clicks forward. There's a lot of rear locking. Brake balance, two clicks forward, and maybe diff 23. Watch exit curb, turn 11, hitting too hard on the T-tray. For brakes, we need lift and coast, turn 4, turn 12, turn 1.

  44. Daniel RICCIARDORenault

Engineer: OK Daniel, so since we're a bit unaware of the land in terms of timings, we suggest to do the front wing flap slope now. So we're planning to box for a front wing flap adjust.

  45. Sergio PEREZRacing Point

Engineer: work on brakes, work on brakes for tyre temperature, caliper temperature is okay so you can work on brakes for tyre temperature

  46. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

    Engineer: BC3, BC3 The

Kevin MAGNUSSEN: front left is great, now it's gonna die

  47. Daniel RICCIARDORenault

Engineer: So can we do the Aero Cruise please? So Aero P4 5th gear.

  48. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Kevin MAGNUSSEN: The front left is great now, it's gonna die.

  49. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Engineer: Okay, checkered flag, checkered flag, okay to push for a bit, just cool the car in last sector.

  50. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Pierre GASLY: I guess he's gonna box because he's like all over the place sliding everywhere

  51. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Charles LECLERC: You can see the alarm, right?

Engineer: Yes, confirmed we can see it. No actions at the moment.

  52. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: Just for you to know the 5 long for you looks

Charles LECLERC: perfect from the car so from the car I'm pretty sure I'm perfectly on the target but actually it's 5 long

  53. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And box box, we'll do an anti stall into the box again please.

Lewis HAMILTON: I always want to practice my start.
