British Grand Prix 2020: Practice 1 team radio
30 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the British Grand Prix 2020, across 14 drivers. Max VERSTAPPEN had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: If you can, try and get straight into the tyres.
Engineer: Alex, how's the grip?
Alexander ALBON: It's okay, just the tailwind corners are pretty bad, 10-7
Max VERSTAPPEN: Mate, why do I have this s*** headrest in? I can't move my head.
Engineer: Slow the car down please Max, and repeat. Is there something about your headrest? Confirm?
Max VERSTAPPEN: Well yeah, it's this headrest with these side things, which I don't like. I can't move my head.
Engineer: Ah, understood.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I'll do this then, but I want it swapped when I'm in the pits.
Engineer: OK, copy.
Engineer: So just focus on cooling left hand side tyres. You can retain temperature in your right hand side tyres.
Engineer: All clear, Antonio.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: Box is lab.
Engineer: Copy. Box is lab, watch Bottas behind.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I suddenly had a big snap into that last left hander, I don't know, it felt really hot.
Engineer: OK understood, car's ahead of you, pit's out.
Daniil KVYAT: There is some debris on track before turn 15 Copy
Engineer: that
Engineer: Do
Charles LECLERC: we have the chance to change the seat?
Engineer: I think so.
Pierre GASLY: I dodged the inside kerb in the last chicane on the right side And we need to find something for turn 7 because it's pretty bad at the moment
Engineer: Yeah, we've seen it, we've seen it, we have a plan
Engineer: Okay Alex, I suggest you keep the pace up now and keep working your tyres. If we need to we'll make space at the end of the lap, okay? But keep working these tyres.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Mate, is it a little more windy suddenly?
Engineer: Negative.
Lewis HAMILTON: It's coming this high, that's terrible.
Engineer: Okay, copy.
Engineer: Mate, do you reckon I could have a quick breather? My right ass cheek is getting a bit numb. There's quite a pressure point down there. Okay. Yes, you can.
Engineer: If you're happy with the single timed, we can just do that and concentrate on the long run. But being the hard, probably we'll come alive only after the first.
George RUSSELL: The end of the mid to exit turn 6 is woeful, don't know if you've got any suggestions with diffs.
Esteban OCON: Yeah, let's type in again for the middle of the corner always normal story
George RUSSELL: For the turn 7 balance issues, I'm not too sure what I can do to isolate that corner
Lando NORRIS: Was that wind or diff?
Engineer: Looks to be the changing of wind direction. It's the wind.
Engineer: So in general, no one is improving, second lap with this tyre, maybe same lap time but not improving, second push lap with medium Do
Charles LECLERC: you want to continue? If you have time to go on high fuel, I will do high fuel, because I'm not sure it would be beneficial to keep running on this set on, yeah, like that Copy,
Engineer: understood
George RUSSELL: Mate, she was proper wobbly round those maggots, beckons and stow.
Engineer: Yeah, we can see that.
Engineer: Ok, what was the main limitation?
Pierre GASLY: Just lacking grip in the low speed especially, and the steering high speed. Long corners like turn 6, turn 15, I just lose the front at the apex.
Engineer: Copy turn 6, turn 15 we need to take it easy in entry, we push a bit too much in entry.
Pierre GASLY: God, that chicken is so, so bad.
Engineer: Box, box, box, box.
Engineer: Everything okay, Valtteri? Yep. Just
Valtteri BOTTAS: cutting some grass.
Pierre GASLY: Okay, I need a lot more rear and low speed a lot more and a lot more front in high speed the moment This doesn't feel right
Nicholas LATIFI: I don't know why my DRS has not been working on the Outlaps exit of turn 5.
Engineer: Look at that.
Esteban OCON: I hit the curb there. Can you have a check?
Engineer: Copy, we will.
Lance STROLL: The rios
Engineer: are
Lance STROLL: just overheated massively.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I had like a clip in between turn 3 and 4, same story, but I don't think it's a clip, it just doesn't accelerate.
Engineer: Yeah, understood.
Lewis HAMILTON: Cool car Ronnie
Engineer: Strap motor should help that cool car
George RUSSELL: So I turn into turn 16, I go over a little bump, the front left goes off the ground, it just never reattaches.
