United States Grand Prix 2021: Practice 1 team radio
52 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the United States Grand Prix 2021, across 19 drivers. Sergio PEREZ had the most, with 6.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: Manage the pace. Stay off the curbs.
Engineer: Stop the car please, stop the car.
Engineer: Red flag, Daniel, red flag with boxy slap.
Engineer: Red flag red flag red flag boxbox red flag box red flag boxbox
Engineer: So this red flag looks just to be an engine problem for Alonso. I expect they'll get that car moved quickly and we can get going again.
Nikita MAZEPIN: Copy. I have a lot of buffering on the helmet. It goes up like crazy, you see that? Understood.
Mick SCHUMACHER: Ties dealt with slippery
Engineer: OK Kimi, we will have a green in 30 seconds, 30 seconds.
Engineer: I think we can look forward to push a little bit more on this out lap. Front temps are a little low.
Engineer: So the rear tyres are looking pretty good, just the front's a bit on the cool side.
Lando NORRIS: Yeah, all good. My lights for recharge don't work. I don't know if I'm in recharge or not apart from when it says Recharge on my dash, but the lights aren't working
Engineer: Okay, understood. We're checking now
Engineer: I
Daniel RICCIARDO: think they'll need a pretty good pull-down lap, so keep me posted on traffic. Copy.
Engineer: So cars behind have finished laps. The car behind is Stroll. Gap two seconds.
Engineer: As we did lose that lap due to track limits at turn nine, there's quite a few cars in a similar position
Engineer: In terms of sectors, it's half a tenth to Hamilton in sector one. Same sector two time.
Lando NORRIS: A lot of front and rear locking, I'll probably say rear locking the bigger problem, front locking only into turn 30.
Yuki TSUNODA: There is overheating already from turn 11. Copy.
Engineer: Daniel we're going to stay out and do one more lap Lando is currently on a push lap
Daniel RICCIARDO: 19
Engineer: second ahead of you he can back off and potentially we practice getting a tow out of turn 11 if you want to abort after that that's okay
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, main limitation is too much rotation, high speed, and riding high speed, car feels super stiff at the rear, high speed.
Engineer: There's a
Lewis HAMILTON: lot of overheating. Yes, particularly.
Engineer: Okay, copy.
Engineer: The wind has come up a little bit, maybe 6 to 10 kph in the direction expected, so tailwind out of 1, tailwind into 15 and into 19.
Engineer: OK, so tyre's still on the warm side but just need a bit of brake temp into 19 and 20. Ideally keep the pace up through the last two corners just to keep the tyres clean. Track is all clear ahead and behind at the moment.
Engineer: Remember mode restart when it's off
Engineer: And we have headwind into turn 1, 5 kph
Engineer: So Sebastian, that lap was deleted for turn 9. Yeah,
Sebastian VETTEL: copy. Lost the rear quite badly.
Engineer: We're thinking a double cool.
Sebastian VETTEL: Yeah, I think that's
Engineer: a
Sebastian VETTEL: good idea.
Engineer: He's on an out lap, he's on an out lap, you've got a clear run to the last corner currently.
George RUSSELL: Interesting pace of his out lap.
Engineer: Yeah, he's very slow.
Engineer: How's the balance?
Esteban OCON: Yeah, I didn't feel a huge amount of extra grip unfortunately, so that's the first issue. Quite a lot of grip loss through the corner.
Engineer: How's the tyre? Is that big damage on the tyre? Hard to say. Okay, let's do a cool-down lap. Just watch out for the car coming through.
Engineer: Ok Pierre, how was that?
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, not bad, just still for me it's too oversteery, I'm really rear limited and just like every time I go on power it's like I'm quite sideways. Like the rear generally is pretty weak.
Engineer: I
Sergio PEREZ: think it will be quite hard to get it, how are the second laps for other people?
Engineer: Leclerc's improved, 3 temps Vettel, 6 temps slower, otherwise not many people have done a second push lap yet.
Lando NORRIS: Too badly flat spotted I got a box
Engineer: And seeing quite a bit of separation in the rear wheels on entries. So think about reducing beamig and going up on the infantry. And let us know how much flap you want to drop.
Max VERSTAPPEN: I had
Engineer: a
Max VERSTAPPEN: really bad turn 1, because of the traffic.
Engineer: Understood.
Engineer: So let's start to build some brake temperature at the end of the lap, the fronts are a little cool.
Engineer: And box, Antonio, box, box.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: We change the elements, we go for a new one.
Engineer: Yeah, confirmed, we will change.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: I need to stop, I need to stop the helmets, I don't know why it's coming out.
Engineer: Copy Antonio, then we box this lap.
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: We change the helmets,
Engineer: we
Antonio GIOVINAZZI: go for a new one.
Engineer: Yeah, confirmed, we will change.
Engineer: Once you've done the double, you can just pull away gently. I can't.
George RUSSELL: All right, what's
Engineer: up?
George RUSSELL: I can't give a double up.
Engineer: OK, fine. No, it's fine.
Engineer: Hamilton has just finished a fast lap on low fuel so he's either slow or in.
Lewis HAMILTON: Did you say four tenths?
Engineer: Four hundredths. Four hundredths of Valtteri's first lap.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: How long it takes to change the thing that we're talking about it? I don't know.
Engineer: Uh... Impressive? Yeah, yeah, I know. Let me see with the time we have. He will be very tight. He's a quick change, but he will be very tight, Kimi. Very tight. We have only eight, nine minutes left. I'll stay out. Copy.
Sergio PEREZ: Driveability into 9 was quite good. I got a massive kick.
Engineer: Copy that, we'll have a look.
Engineer: Brakes are all over the place, please give me feedback for beaming, I'll
George RUSSELL: help get it in the window
Engineer: So Leclerc ahead is used softly, think high fuel as well.
Engineer: Okay, we're looking at around three time laps to the chequered flag. There's a 15 seconds of margin on that. First laps for Checo on the hard tyre, 41.7, then a 41.5.
Engineer: Strat 3 when you can. Strat 3 for energy management test. Energy management test.
Engineer: Clutch 1% deep, pedal was good.
Engineer: Oh, I didn't see it. Okay, watch for Verstappen. He's Perez. Okay, watch for Verstappen. He's behind. Yeah, I didn't see. Okay, watch for Bottas. Do you have damage, Mick? Watch for Bottas behind. I guess so.
Sergio PEREZ: What an idiot, he's not looking at his mirrors.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, I didn't have any release out of, what is it, 13, 14?
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: That's the checkered flag. I'm happy for you to keep pushing if you can get any clearer.
Engineer: OK Sebastian, you can just back off now and make a bigger gap to Lance who's ahead, we'll do a stack pit stop, so just try to lose 15 to 20 seconds.
Charles LECLERC: Yep, let's lead to the gate off Reynolds, be careful, there was one going down there I'll let you know when you're done
Engineer: Copy
