Canadian Grand Prix 2024: Practice 1 team radio
34 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Canadian Grand Prix 2024, across 16 drivers. 33 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Carlos SAINZ had the most, with 4.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: Okay Veltrine, so truck is clear at the moment.
Lewis HAMILTON: It's very low
Valtteri BOTTAS: Yeah, I think we could do eight-twos.
Engineer: Should be okay. Okay, copy.
Engineer: In the runoff at 1314 there's still a lot of standing water. That's just in the runoff at 13
Oscar PIASTRI: The grip feels okay so far. I think it's going to dry very quickly.
Engineer: Copy.
Oscar PIASTRI: No, grip feels okay so far. I think it's going to drive very quickly.
Engineer: Copy. So the other car has done a once-past, Oscar. Your call whether you want to go once-past or box.
Oscar PIASTRI: I'll go once-past.
Engineer: Copy. Switches are good. You've got plenty of space behind. You can open a gap to Bottas if you want.
George RUSSELL: Steering to bit, left hand down.
Engineer: Copy.
ZHOU Guanyu: Yeah, I lost a little bit of the car. Yeah, I'll go plan in man
Engineer: GX, position 3, GX, position 3 It
Carlos SAINZ: doesn't appear, because of the red flags, I don't know where I'm at Copy that
Engineer: Yeah, we'd like to do a start going out, please.
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: Copy.
Engineer: And as discussed, let's get a feel for the track. We're happy to do a time-lap but no need to do too many. We want to avoid damaging the tires if possible.
Engineer: And Oscar, if you think we're just going to damage the tyre, I'm happy to box, the other car has boxed.
Oscar PIASTRI: Yeah, I think we're going
Engineer: to
Oscar PIASTRI: damage it.
Engineer: Copy, so box.
George RUSSELL: Let's just have a think here. There's a dry line to sector 2 and 3 Obviously if we need to hold on to these tyres.
Engineer: Dry
George RUSSELL: line all the way down the back straight
Engineer: Okay Pierre, that lap's good for P2. How's the track?
Pierre GASLY: It's good, yeah.
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, it's getting quite dry
Engineer: Okay, so let's try and avoid to damage these so happy to complete this lap and then box
Engineer: OK, Kev, from a tyre temperature point of view, we're happy to do another push lap.
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: I don't know,
Engineer: I
Kevin MAGNUSSEN: think it's getting tough for the tyres here.
Engineer: OK, in that case, I'd recommend boxing this lap. FYI, you are P2, 29-0. The clerk is P1, 27-6.
Charles LECLERC: Next car behind, Slur, Magnuson.
Engineer: The
Charles LECLERC: track is so much drier compared to the lap before, like it's... Richard approaching behind 6. Don't worry, I've got it. And Vox? Copy, I've got everything, don't worry. The dry, we might drive on the dry before the end of the session. Perfect.
Carlos SAINZ: Do we expect rain for FP2?
Engineer: Yes, we do expect rain for FP2.
Engineer: No one pushing behind, look after your tails, box box.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yep, understood.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Okay, yeah, I'll give feedback in a second, but yeah,
Engineer: all good.
Engineer: Okay, Checo, so any reliability issues?
Sergio PEREZ: No, no. I just had quite a lot of oscillations in the 10-10. I think that was in third gear.
Engineer: The
Sergio PEREZ: oscillations were very high.
Engineer: Take care and just put temperature on the straights
Engineer: So just focus initially on building temperature max.
Carlos SAINZ: Anyone out on slicks?
Engineer: Yeah, it's Lando and Max in front of you, and Charles as well. Standing water exit turn 10 for info, and DRS off for flowbees for now, and then you can take it.
Engineer: On Daniel we take no risk, we take no risk, we try to learn for a drying track in quali. Sector 1 a bit down past the trees, and then not too bad. We have signs, turn 1 pushing, and then clear track.
Engineer: Leclerc's first push was 4 seconds off compared to Inter, but track will keep increasing.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: Try to overtake them, they are outlapped.
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, they need to let me by.
Engineer: We're going to get a read on bouncing and ride from 10 to 14 and then we'll be taking the checkered flag.
Charles LECLERC: Yeah, these guys are just staying completely in the middle Frustrating when you have people like this on track.
Engineer: I know it was a purple middle sector
Engineer: Okay Lance, we'll stay out for the grid start actually, we'll stay out for the grid start, so let's get a bit of cooling now, a bit of cooling now, and we'll stay out and go to the grid.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, that was a little off-road excursion.
Engineer: Yep, we saw that.
Valtteri BOTTAS: Yeah, not so many laps obviously, and yeah, quite compromised conditions, every run was different grip levels, different patches of dry and wet track, so not easy to learn much, but at least we got initial idea of the balance. Yeah, part of the game happens when you try, so gotta find the limits, you know. It's pretty technical track, I mean, yeah, the chicanes and stuff, it needs a lot of precision, you're going over the curves, close to walls, it's enjoyable, and yeah, but let's hope for a bit more sun this afternoon. It's very smooth now, actually, super smooth track, so yeah, it changes a bit the setup philosophy for sure from the past, but yeah, and grip is also okay.
