Spanish Grand Prix 2024: Qualifying team radio
45 radio messages were recorded during qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix 2024, across 20 drivers. 44 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Logan SARGEANT had the most, with 4.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: Ok Logan, at the moment only one other car is on track, the track is clean, so focus on warm up now.
Engineer: Synchronize all the gears and you know the target brakes and tires.
Engineer: All okay on traffic and the mode push, mode push.
ZHOU Guanyu: Car moving up in sector 1, the rest is ok.
Engineer: Copy that.
Engineer: Ok, main loss is a min 5, front flap adjust. Copy.
Engineer: Okay, Logan. Feedback on tires, please.
Logan SARGEANT: Quite good. I felt like I was losing the rear last sector though, but opened well.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: So Daniel, only losses to Yuki are entry turn 4, we lose around half a tenth, Yuki is carrying a bit more speed in entry and breaking minimum speed turn 14, where we also lose half a tenth, you are lifting a little bit more. I see turn 10 and turn 12 stability is still on the lower side. I would suggest to go one click forward on the offset before turn 10.
Engineer: wind similar to fp3
George RUSSELL: Don't think I would improve on the same set of tyres. Copy that, Simon, at 3. I'd be happy to save this set for Q2.
Lance STROLL: It's only impeded by the Williams. Yeah, it's alright, it's alright, I'll have a look.
Yuki TSUNODA: Well, I don't know what we're missing I thought that was good lap
Engineer: Yeah We show you the compare in the garage All the think on flap.
Yuki TSUNODA: I will say similar. Yeah, I was pretty happy with this balance understood and I think maybe we should open one step of the diff straight
Engineer: Okay,
Yuki TSUNODA: after 10-3
Engineer: And how's the balance so far?
Pierre GASLY: Balance is good, it's improved compared to P3.
Engineer: OK. And tyre readiness, any comments?
Pierre GASLY: That was good, but I lost sector as well.
Engineer: OK, copy.
Engineer: I
Alexander ALBON: was sliding too much in sector 1, I don't know the size one there compared to the previous one.
Engineer: Yeah we can see that the snap in turn one too. Okay so at the moment p12 but obviously yeah okay
Alexander ALBON: well then we need to do the tracking as well.
Yuki TSUNODA: That was
Engineer: a
Yuki TSUNODA: good lap.
Engineer: Yeah, it was ok. Unfortunately, it was not enough. But yeah, this is what we had.
Yuki TSUNODA: No, we didn't go through.
Engineer: Negative.
Yuki TSUNODA: No man, come on.
Engineer: Yeah.
Engineer: Okay, Kevin, unfortunately we are out. We are P16.
Logan SARGEANT: Yeah, it's been a painful weekend guys. I'm trying my best.
Engineer: Yeah, good job. Keep pushing tomorrow. Exactly, never give up.
Engineer: OK, so at the moment, P12, but obviously, yeah, OK, well, let's do the tracking as well. I
Alexander ALBON: think we should have held off on that sickle first one. Afterwards.
Engineer: So still no cars left the pit lane, it's just yourself on track.
Engineer: Make sure you've got that gap between pit exit and SC2.
Engineer: need to
Lewis HAMILTON: watch this queue next time as it's down here waiting.
Engineer: Yeah copy Lewis, yeah that front right probably wants a little bit more work so just left hand let's just get that front right.
Engineer: Yeah, that was a good lap. Three seconds to Norris, so let's watch out for Norris, 1.5.
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, let's just check the floor, left side, when I come back, last corner, I run a bit on the left.
Engineer: Okay, we'll have a look. It'll be fine.
Lewis HAMILTON: Yes sir, I was back.
Engineer: Okay, copy.
Carlos SAINZ: Ok, let's take the 0.1 up now, it's a bit more stable, I think we are through.
Engineer: Copy, we are through.
Engineer: Really time to find is in sector 3. I think you know where that's going to come from and just be mindful of cars on Outlaps where we can get the tow
Engineer: So first car pushing is Hamilton, 17 seconds back. And then Bottas is seven behind him.
Fernando ALONSO: With Joe about... Okay, you tell me. I will, yeah. Which car you will grab.
Engineer: And then behind Bottas is Joe, only four behind him. So I think behind Joe is going to be our gap.
Engineer: And Oscar, a reminder the Delta still needs to be close to zero. Opening the lap, obviously you have let Karls through. Maximum plus 20 for the flag.
Engineer: P11, P11 sorry, very tight margins couple of hundredths ahead
Engineer: P-13, Nico, P-13. So yeah, good improvement. Not quite enough. P-10 was 0.2 quicker.
Engineer: So P-12, Ocon P-10 with a 12.1.
Valtteri BOTTAS: OK, good job. It's what I've done before, so some progress.
Engineer: Yeah, same to you. You've been good all weekend.
Engineer: And the wind is similar to previous one
Engineer: So just one degree short on target temp at the moment, looking good.
Engineer: It just looked like the wind had picked up a little bit there Max.
Engineer: How's the balance on that U-set?
Esteban OCON: Yeah, struggling a little bit more
Engineer: With
Esteban OCON: the grip in lower speed
Engineer: Is that from the rear?
Esteban OCON: No, yeah, no more, no, no more on the STI, it's similar in terms of balance, so That tells us that that's the way to go probably
Engineer: Yeah, I understood
Engineer: We
Max VERSTAPPEN: can talk about it. The cars. So many cars.
George RUSSELL: Lewis doing prep on that lap?
Engineer: Just it's fine. Well, we'll talk about it afterwards head in the game
Engineer: So Lando there is 2 minutes 40 to the flag. The number I'm thinking about in my head which might help is 12 it's 12
George RUSSELL: How low to keep the pace up?
Engineer: Yeah, I've been asking for that
Engineer: Okay, you'll have to turn the car fully off Oscar don't panic about that starting p10 you've got a quick car and we can gain back
Engineer: Have that, Paul. Let's f***ing
Lando NORRIS: go, baby.
Engineer: Let's f***ing
Lando NORRIS: go. Woo!
Max VERSTAPPEN: That's it? Yeah, P2 max, hard luck. Yeah, it's good. The car felt a lot better in quality, so nice little trouble with check, I guess we really extracted everything.
Engineer: Yeah, well done, mate. That was a very, very solid qualifying, very well done, and only two hundredths in it, so all on for tomorrow.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: Okay, this that's a p3 great
Lewis HAMILTON: effort guys you're getting closer you got to keep pushing
Pierre GASLY: It's ok, we'll get P8 tomorrow with Perez now. Perez is actually P8 already. Yeah, but that's without the penalty, right?
Engineer: Yep.
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, so 57 and P8 for the team, so that's good. Yep, good session mate, so let's focus on fuel saving.
Charles LECLERC: Ok, well we did a good job on recovering from yesterday in terms of feeling, but of course disappointed with the result, but anyway, we've got the race tomorrow.
Engineer: Yeah, let's focus on the race tomorrow, you did a good job anyway, thank you.
Carlos SAINZ: We have V6. That's quicker than I thought they would go. Yeah, what do you think?
Engineer: It
Carlos SAINZ: was quite quick, no? Yeah, it was quite quick, yeah.
