Lance Stroll has failed to finish ten of fourteen races in 2026, four more than any other driver, in an Aston Martin shaken by vibration from Honda's new power unit. His best result is thirteenth, in Hungary. Every race, measured, and the radio.
Lance Stroll has been classified at the finish of four Grands Prix in 2026. He has failed to finish the other ten, four more than any other driver, including each of the last three.
The car is the reason most often given. Aston Martin's AMR26 is built around Honda's new power unit, and vibration from it has been blamed for damaging other parts of the car and for the drivers' hands: before the season, Stroll said he could manage about 15 consecutive laps before it became a risk. Fourteen races in, he has no points, his best result is thirteenth in Hungary, and he has started last six times.

The car
Aston Martin's season has been shaped by its power unit. Adrian Newey, now at the team, has described Honda's engine as the source of the vibration: "It's the amplifier. The chassis is, in that scenario, the receiver." The shaking has been blamed for damaging other components, and it reaches the drivers too. Fernando Alonso put his own limit at about 25 laps before the season, and withdrew from the Chinese Grand Prix because of it. Honda has said there will be no major upgrade before 2027.
The Dutch Grand Prix was the team's best race of the year, with Alonso ninth. Stroll's race ended in retirement, and before that he questioned why he had been called into the pits:
"I don't understand why you boxed". Then: "Like, we said that the Cadillacs would be a problem." His engineer explained the thinking: "We thought we were struggling so much on the soft. Against Alonso
The comparison is thin because Stroll has finished so rarely. In the three races both Aston Martins were classified, Alonso was ahead twice, in Miami and at Silverstone, and Stroll once, in Hungary. How he got here
Stroll has driven for the team since it was Racing Point in 2019, and it became Aston Martin in 2021. He has three career podiums: third at Baku in 2017 for Williams, and third at Monza and in Sakhir in 2020 for Racing Point.
