Australian Grand Prix 2018: Practice 1 team radio
30 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Australian Grand Prix 2018, across 13 drivers. 29 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Daniel RICCIARDO had the most, with 8.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: 200 kph, fifth gear, position 4. Yeah, I couldn't. The horse came right in front of me. I couldn't do it.
Carlos SAINZ: So I have a bit of an upset on my steering wheel to the right.
Engineer: Yep, understood.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Box.
Engineer: Radio's seeing good. Okay, understood. So when you get back, stop in the box and a rev check and then switch off.
Engineer: Okay, so you're doing a good job on that battery. Next guy behind you, 20 seconds gap behind you, Vettel, out lap.
Engineer: Okay, so have a look at your dashboard. You could probably afford to lose a little bit of temperature from the tyres. Just have a bit of a think about it, what warm-up was like before, and judge this pace now.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Where's my big boat? Should not be too difficult to put it on.
Engineer: I
Valtteri BOTTAS: think the effects are going to go a little bit different when I get on power.
Engineer: Looks like we're using the rears a little bit into the low speed. So Matt's suggesting pull toggle, turn 3, turn 9, turn 15 will help the rears.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Are the tyres getting hot?
Engineer: Yeah, similar cool lap to the last slow lap, I think, Max, at this stage. Target plus 20 on your dash.
Marcus ERICSSON: Get traffic every lap.
Engineer: Yeah, I can see. Don't worry. Don't worry. Just crack on. We have another three-time lap.
Engineer: Okay, so you've improved to a 25-0. Max improved by a couple of hundred, so you're now both within the tenth.
Engineer: Back off and box, easy, easy, box, box.
Engineer: The air drivability just felt very poor out of the pit main.
Engineer: There's a
Lewis HAMILTON: lot of traffic on that lap.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Lost quite a bit of front with the high speeds.
Engineer: Okay, understood.
Lance STROLL: Something on the rear is quite bad.
Engineer: Copy that. I can see some oversteer.
Lance STROLL: What is Bottas doing in Hamilton? He just stayed in the middle of the track.
Engineer: Okay, copy that.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yeah, just feels disconnected. So, struggled with the front when leading on it. But I feel like the rear's getting hurt on exit still.
Esteban OCON: Otherwise, which of the beeps? Tire in two. Switch tire in two.
Lewis HAMILTON: Am I in strat 1 right now, or?
Engineer: So yes, we are in strat mode 1.
Pierre GASLY: The laptop is going nuts.
Engineer: You should not get the beeps.
Sergio PEREZ: I am getting the beeps.
Engineer: Tyre 2. Tyre 2 will cancel the beeps.
Engineer: Yeah, that's time. You have time for two more laps after this stuff. Time for two more laps after this.
Engineer: Cool down and we go again.
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah, copy. I went wide the last quarter, lost about seven sets.
Engineer: Sorry, Carlos, your radio is not working. I cannot hear you very well. What is the radio? Understood, understood.
Engineer: Okay, so that is the checkered flag. Keep up the pace. We are going round to the grid for a start. Keep up the pace for the start of the lap.
Engineer: practice start as far forward as you can on the right hand side
Engineer: And left-hand side of the grid, if you can do it, left-hand side.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Um, are we going to, are we going to the grid?
Engineer: Nope. Box and confirm, Max. Box, pick confirm.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Okay.
