Singapore Grand Prix 2018: Practice 2 team radio

32 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the Singapore Grand Prix 2018, across 16 drivers. Daniel RICCIARDO had the most, with 4.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. Charles LECLERCSauber

Engineer: We hit ENTRY 5, ENTRY 8 and MID 5, ENTRY 8 and MID 5. Do not understand anything. DIFF ENTRY 8, DIFF ENTRY 8, and DIFF MID 5, DIFF MID 5. DIFF ENTRY 8? Yeah, correct. And DIFF what? And DIFF MID 5, MID 5.

    Charles LECLERC: Copy.

  2. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Both front and rear a little bit cool at this stage, mainly fronts, so work them.

  3. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

    Engineer: I'm not

Lewis HAMILTON: sure how this left-hand tyre is really damaged. Okay, we're ready in the box for you.

  4. Sergio PEREZForce India

Sergio PEREZ: When I stop, I need to change the visor.

  5. Carlos SAINZRenault

Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, this tower just keeps getting better and better.

    Engineer: Yeah, okay, yeah.

Carlos SAINZ: I cannot have another lap.

    Engineer: Negative, Carlos, negative.

  6. Stoffel VANDOORNEMcLaren

Engineer: Stoffel just be a bit more break potato turn 13 to manage the front right under rotation

  7. Daniel RICCIARDORed Bull

Daniel RICCIARDO: Driveability, not great. Quite the eclipse.

  8. Stoffel VANDOORNEMcLaren

Stoffel VANDOORNE: Where is the time to find?

Engineer: Sector 1 is probably your best sector. There's a bit of time in the entry to turn 5 you can try and find. Braking for turn 7 now looks good, but there's a bit to find in the entry of 8 and 9. Time to find under braking for turn 10 and a little bit under braking for turn 15, 16.

  9. Fernando ALONSOMcLaren

Engineer: Most other people have done their times on primes.

  10. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: Valtteri aborted his second push lap on that tyre as he wasn't finding any time

  11. Brendon HARTLEYToro Rosso

    Brendon HARTLEY: Small touch.

Engineer: Small touch, left-hand side. Copy that, copy that. We are checking. Focus on recharge. Big focus on recharge.

  12. Daniel RICCIARDORed Bull

Engineer: Just reminding back to this morning, the first lap was the best one, Bottas attempted a second lap and then backed out of it.

  13. Fernando ALONSOMcLaren

Engineer: That was a good sector 3

Fernando ALONSO: Ok, I wanted to try something in sector 3 so I'm happy to box now

Engineer: Yep, ok, whatever it was, it looked good we are boxed this lap

  14. Sebastian VETTELFerrari

Engineer: I brush the wall, exit of 21, I think I might have damage.

  15. Lance STROLLWilliams

    Engineer: Even

Lance STROLL: the front's starting to have the grip.

Engineer: Okay, just stand by for a double slow lap.

  16. Esteban OCONForce India

Engineer: Esteban, we're going to go for a second cool, second cool lap to cool rears.

  17. Carlos SAINZRenault

Engineer: we can start focusing on green numbers on the dash straight away please

  18. Sergio PEREZForce India

Engineer: Check I work a little bit more on front temperature, bit more on front temperature, the cooling of the rears is good, but we need a bit more front temperature without heating the rears.

  19. Esteban OCONForce India

Engineer: Esteban, did you brush the wall at all on that run?

Esteban OCON: No, but it was close to game over. But no, nothing.

  20. Kimi RAIKKONENFerrari

Engineer: So Kimi we are dropping alpha degree the front wing, if you can do a clutch drop leaving the pit stop.

  21. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: How's the pace? Okay Nico, unfortunately no real comparison possible at the moment. Carlos may be two to three tenths slower but he's also had some traffic.

  22. Marcus ERICSSONSauber

Marcus ERICSSON: The fronts are completely falling apart copy

    Engineer: that copy that

  23. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Max what is the problem it happened out of turn seven I accelerated and I just went like I don't know misfiring or something

  24. Lance STROLLWilliams

Engineer: OK, lots of brakes are too hot on the rear right, we need to box as slow as you can, slow as you can, we need to cool the brakes.

    Lance STROLL: OK.

Engineer: So go out lap, let's cool the brakes, try not to use them as much as possible.

  25. Fernando ALONSOMcLaren

Engineer: And Fernando, engine braking test, torque 3 and it's shape 1. That's torque 3, shape 1.

  26. Marcus ERICSSONSauber

Engineer: Ok Marcus, keep doing the liftoff, I know you are struggling at the front, but we need to live with that for the moment.

  27. Daniel RICCIARDORed Bull

Daniel RICCIARDO: Another A grade f***head

    Engineer: Understood

  28. Sergey SIROTKINWilliams

Engineer: Just give us some further feedback, Sergei. I

Sergey SIROTKIN: mean, very strange combination between either front locking in some places and a very sudden end of the braking rear snap.

Engineer: OK, copy that. We'll take a look from outside.

  29. Stoffel VANDOORNEMcLaren

Engineer: Yeah, massive rain in the front right. Copy, copy. How's the rear stuff? How's the rear? Doesn't feel too bad. Okay, that's good. Use the toys, use the toys.

  30. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: The engine is doing the same thing again, but already for a lap. They don't see it in the data.

  31. Daniel RICCIARDORed Bull

Engineer: Okay, so that is the checkered flag. Can you put the pace on the way in please?

  32. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: OK Niko, with all this traffic there's no point pushing so let's cool the brakes now, let's cool the brakes.
