United States Grand Prix 2019: Race team radio
106 radio messages were recorded during race at the United States Grand Prix 2019, across 18 drivers. 104 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Lewis HAMILTON had the most, with 20.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: There's people in the pit lane Carlos, so just take care.
Lewis HAMILTON: You need new gloves.
Engineer: These gloves have holes in the fingers. OK, copy. We'll get us up to the grid.
Engineer: wind direction still showing tailwind out of one
Engineer: Landau, tyre info, Raikkonen starts on soft, Hülkenberg and Kvyat have a hard on, everybody else with a free choice has medium.
Engineer: Last week we beat McLaren from Australia, this week we'll take the 5-0 to Montrachet and beat Montrachet here.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Let's heat them up.
Sebastian VETTEL: I must have damage. I don't know where from. I didn't touch anything, but I have understeer like crazy.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Just took my wing and plane to the front.
Engineer: Very tidy first lap there Lewis, so Leclerc behind 1.7
Engineer: Do
Lance STROLL: I have a puncture?
Engineer: Not at the moment, Lance. Don't think so. You did get hit, probably, from behind.
Engineer: Very tidy first lap there Lewis
Engineer: I
Alexander ALBON: have damage but I don't know what I have
Engineer: And only losses to Verstappen are areas of management, so through the S's and 17-18.
Engineer: To let me know if you are pushing or not.
Charles LECLERC: Not massively though.
Engineer: Just
Charles LECLERC: reasonably. Like everyone is doing.
Engineer: Okay Lano, pace is really good, just find the rhythm now, just be careful of oversteer places like Turn 9.
Daniel RICCIARDO: And how are the tyres? They're okay both my packs will feel it a little bit at the moment.
Engineer: You are still faster than the leaders. You will catch the two Williams at the end of this lap.
Engineer: So we are going plan B, but you need to try to close the gap to Hamilton in front. He's at 5.2
Romain GROSJEAN: Yeah, there's absolutely no traction so yeah turn one I know there's a lot going on but I can't really be more gentle
Sebastian VETTEL: I think the suspension just failed. Yeah, failed. Something broke.
Valtteri BOTTAS: yeah it's just a bit of a step in grip loss of grip like in the practice so it should stabilize
Engineer: so Vettel just had a suspension failure there's a bit of debris 9 to 11.
Engineer: Yeah, I don't know what happened there. Completely failed.
Engineer: Doing an awesome job, let's find a rim now. Okay,
Daniel RICCIARDO: both axles pretty even at the moment.
Max VERSTAPPEN: You have to tell me if he's in the DRS or not.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: Balance
George RUSSELL: is all over the place, struggling to get the tyres in the window.
Engineer: Ok Kimi, turn 18 and 6 is where you damage the most your rear tyre Yeah
Kimi RAIKKONEN: but I cannot slow down if I want to keep behind the car So either we stick to our plan or we don't Copy
Engineer: Whilst we've got some deg, we're in a better situation than other cars behind you. How are the tyres?
Lando NORRIS: It's kind of steadying a bit, but they're going away a little bit.
Engineer: And try to avoid Apex, Kerberon Apex turn 8.
Charles LECLERC: Why?
Engineer: Just because Sebastian had a suspension failure there.
Engineer: okay Lando Andrea is really impressed so far by this race
Engineer: Okay, just be sensible.
Engineer: Okay, so believe other cars are on a two-stop, so we just stick to our original plan
Engineer: And Landa Gatgassi now 4.6, if possible looking to extend.
Engineer: We do see some damage to the car, we do see some aero damage to the car.
Engineer: Yeah, one more thing on the front, still
Daniel RICCIARDO: the Trent.
Engineer: OK, understood, we'll adjust balance on the next stop.
Engineer: Okay, so believe other cars are on a two-stop so we just stick to our original plan
Engineer: Stroll has DRS, we can make his life difficult and the window for the safety car is open.
Engineer: What you did turn nine was good. Keep doing it
Engineer: Just update us on tyres.
Lewis HAMILTON: There's a chain in the room that didn't happen at the moment, that's ok right now.
Engineer: OK, loose, so box, box Alright,
Lewis HAMILTON: go longer
Engineer: Okay, you can attack him now.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Okay, I doubt we can fight him, or I can fight him, but we can't destroy the tires, so we're gonna fight him.
Engineer: Man, I can
George RUSSELL: barely get the car on the road on that, isn't it?
Engineer: Hercules are going to the end, 32 laps remaining, this will be close to Verstappen at the end of the race. We
Lewis HAMILTON: are out of the chance to win.
Engineer: Hercules 16 seconds to Verstappen, 21 seconds to Valtteri, remember they need to make an extra stop.
Engineer: So this is critical that we make the one-stop work, Lewis. You managed 24 laps on that medium tyre.
Lewis HAMILTON: Give me a dog
Engineer: Lots of cars ahead will struggle with their tires at the end of the race. We're not out of this yet, mate. Let's keep going
Engineer: So Lewis these lap times will put you in contention for the win, but we just need to have tyres at the end of the race
Engineer: You're pulling away from Verstappen
Lando NORRIS: What's he saying on the radio? Why is he going so slow?
Engineer: Lando, he isn't saying much at all. He's trying to get these tyres to the end. Your pace is very strong. The leaders are even doing 40.0. Make sure Plan A works for us.
Max VERSTAPPEN: The left one doesn't want to turn in anymore. I
Engineer: can't see it.
Engineer: Carlos is coming under pressure from Albon, Albon's quick behind him
Valtteri BOTTAS: Tire is still ok, so small drop off from the rear
Max VERSTAPPEN: That is Costa Havre in the 16-17.
Engineer: So Lando, Albon is 3.6 behind. Just remember what happened to Carlos last race. Don't lose time with Albon, but be there with him when he gets to Ricciardo.
Lando NORRIS: Yeah, confirm.
Engineer: And box box box
Lewis HAMILTON: it's gonna be a hard one yeah
Engineer: copy Lewis I know
Engineer: Great job. Great job, BC3, BC3.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: Great job, great job BC3, BC3.
Sergio PEREZ: I had a drop on power when I shifted up to 4k.
Engineer: basically we need eight tenths a lap on Hamilton every lap to be able to catch him before the last lap
Nico HULKENBERG: I think it's time for a health smash soon, what do you think?
Engineer: Could be mate
Engineer: Tires are just gone. Completely. Copy. Tires gone. Copy.
Lewis HAMILTON: I don't know how much longer these diodes are going to last.
Engineer: OK copy Lewis, we'll just keep monitoring it.
Lewis HAMILTON: Has anyone else made these tires last this long?
Engineer: So copy loose we're concerned that these may not get to the end we have an option for another stop and try battle for second
Engineer: And Lando, how are the tyres? How are the tyres?
Lando NORRIS: Starting to struggle with the rears a bit.
Engineer: I'm
Lewis HAMILTON: going to have to keep going.
Engineer: Okay, copy.
Carlos SAINZ: If you think these guys are gonna die at the end, think about slamming me.
Engineer: Carlos, Lando is pitting. Lando will pit. You should stay out and make plan A work.
Charles LECLERC: What is the fastest lap?
Engineer: Fastest lap at the moment is 36.95 36.95
Engineer: Nicky I know you're fighting but just try and watch the rear slip out of turn 20
Engineer: Lando, this is now qualifying laps to the end, mate. Qualifying laps to the end. So Perez is our first target. He's 11.5 seconds. Last lap he did a 1.41.0.
Engineer: I think
Kimi RAIKKONEN: he was off the track.
Engineer: Okay, copy that.
Nico HULKENBERG: It's pushing me up the track there
Engineer: Now we've gained two and a half seconds on Perez since our stop let's go get him
Engineer: Need to let Kimi past, apparently. Need to let Kimi past. I
Nico HULKENBERG: don't know how you want to race, then. There you go. Come here, buddy.
Engineer: Got the two seconds. Okay,
Valtteri BOTTAS: no talking now.
Engineer: Ok Kimi, we recommend K1 only But
Kimi RAIKKONEN: it's not gonna stay behind with K1
Engineer: No f***ing
Kimi RAIKKONEN: chance in the straight
Engineer: Yeah, yeah, saw it
Engineer: Great job mate, great job. Eight laps to go.
Engineer: Okay, Kevin, we've had two warnings for running wide at 19 that lap and way earlier in the race, so we've had two so far.
Engineer: Alright mate, you've got them in your sights, come on. Six laps to go.
Engineer: And it's a real bunt fight going on up ahead Nico, so still good chance of an extra result
Engineer: So Carlos, we don't want to pick up marbles on these tyres, we don't want to pick up marbles but don't hold Lando up, he may be able to get Ricciardo.
Carlos SAINZ: I pass him on the main straight, fill him.
Engineer: Four laps remaining. Gap 1.5. Strat 12 when you're comfortable.
Valtteri BOTTAS: Yeah, put it there already. Strat 12. Now you can speak if you want.
Engineer: Sir, Gap to Verstappen at 2.9 I
Lewis HAMILTON: can see it man, just leave it to it
Engineer: Okay, let's have boost on please boost on and leave it there
Max VERSTAPPEN: Do we have full power? I want full power.
Engineer: Yes, yes we have it.
Engineer: Bring it home Alex three and a half laps to go.
Alexander ALBON: Can I try this?
Engineer: We can't see guys that
Pierre GASLY: is broken so I can't drive
Engineer: Get in there Lewis. What a drive mate, that is it. Champion of the world. Did it in style mate, you did that in style.
Engineer: Well done, Valtteri! Great weekend! Great weekend!
Valtteri BOTTAS: Yeah!
Lewis HAMILTON: Still we rise guys still we rise What an incredible weekend. Thank you so much guys for today Everyone that came out. I can't believe it. I really can't believe it. Thank you so much
Engineer: OK Lewis, so when you come into the pit lane, they've reserved the special parking space for the world champ.
Engineer: Well done, Valtteri.
Valtteri BOTTAS: Yeah!
Engineer: Thanks guys. Very happy.
Engineer: Ah mate, hard luck. Hard luck. Yellow ruined us there mate. That was not an easy day in the office. You drove really well though, well done mate.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Ah, the back mark is unbelievable, they cost me second today. Anyways, good result. We were close the whole race.
Engineer: Yeah, that's pretty decent Max, that's a good result. Good pace that second half of the race and a couple more laps and you'd have nailed him.
Engineer: Well done mate, great recovery to get back up to P5. Yeah,
Alexander ALBON: sorry, I just, I felt pinched so if I went right I would have hit Carlos and if I went left I would have hit Charles.
Engineer: That's alright Alex, that's a decent recovery.
Charles LECLERC: Yeah, coffee. Yeah, a very very difficult day.
Engineer: For
Charles LECLERC: some reasons the first set was... Yeah, I was struggling a lot, but I'll explain more in details later.
Engineer: Nice job mate, nice job, PE6, well done mate, awesome drive.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Nice boys, nice, thank you.
Engineer: Awesomely managed mate, awesomely managed. What a finish Daniel, thank you, great stuff.
Daniel RICCIARDO: Merci Cyril, thanks boys, good points, giddy giddy. Awesome
Engineer: job mate, you deserve some BBQ now. Finally,
Daniel RICCIARDO: finally, alright, thanks boys.
Lando NORRIS: Sorry I didn't get him guys. I might have had a little go, but the yellows
Engineer: were
Lando NORRIS: not giving me the chance, so. I don't know, good try. At least we tried something different. Almost worked, but apart from that, good job.
Engineer: Please don't apologise mate, you did a great job. Yep, those double yellows screwed us, but otherwise I think you would have got him. Well done.
Engineer: We are having a strategy debrief after that. Great, great drive, thank you.
Nico HULKENBERG: Is that for me, Cyril?
Engineer: Yeah, I was after you. Yeah, well done. Great drive, great recovery.
Nico HULKENBERG: Thanks, bud.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Disappointing Andrew, so I don't know if I'm
Engineer: going
Kimi RAIKKONEN: to be able to prepare.
Engineer: Ok, copy that, we'll discuss when you're back in your office.
Sergio PEREZ: Man, he came so close under the yellow flag and then he pushed me off
Engineer: Is
Sergio PEREZ: that okay? He just broke my car.
Engineer: Understood Checo. Tell us what happened. Tell us what happened I
Sergio PEREZ: lived for the yellow flag and he came really close to me. He just attacked me afterwards and then Into 15 He just pushed me off came and crashed into me. I gave him enough space and he just pushed me off the track
Engineer: Purple three ELEC. Checo, do you have any damage from that contact? Oh,
Sergio PEREZ: yeah, he broke the front wing Suspension Yeah, he just crashed into me and I gave him a lot of room
Engineer: So we've got uh The turn 12 incident From Kyviat is noted. So We'll let you know when we know more
Sergio PEREZ: Yeah, it's crazy He just came he didn't lift Under the yellow flag. He attacked me straight away
Engineer: And
Sergio PEREZ: then he came and crushed it to me
Daniil KVYAT: Yes! We f***ing
Engineer: took
Daniil KVYAT: it!
Engineer: Okay dude, that's the checker, that's the checker. Good race from you, good start and well managed on the tyres to make the one stop work. Nice laps at the end there dude. Thanks
Romain GROSJEAN: brother, I'm very happy with my driving style. So that was good, I'm happy with the balance of the car. That was good, the rest, not so good. And the start, good job Dave.
Engineer: Good job Roman, good job, good laps. Thank you for getting there, it was good.
Engineer: Box box we retire the car fail 84 fail fail 84 fail box box. We retire the car
George RUSSELL: Incredibly tricky. Both stints after a couple of laps. Massive sliding on both axles. Like I said, I had entry instability, massive understeer at the apex. Sometimes I picked up the throttle and it was understeering, other times massive snaps. High speed was incredibly tricky and inconsistent. Yeah, don't really know what more to say really. It was an absolute killer for the tyres.
Engineer: Difficult afternoon.
