Tuscan Grand Prix 2020: Practice 1 team radio

21 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Tuscan Grand Prix 2020, across 11 drivers. Alexander ALBON had the most, with 4.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. Antonio GIOVINAZZIAlfa Romeo

Antonio GIOVINAZZI: Steering is not straight here, it's completely to the right. Fit lane.

    Engineer: Copy, fit lane.

  2. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

Valtteri BOTTAS: Which is a lot more flat, there's massive atmosphere.

Engineer: Copy, so you're driving through, and let me know how much flap.

  3. Valtteri BOTTASMercedes

    Valtteri BOTTAS: Plus five

  4. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Pierre GASLY: A lot of mid-corner washout.

  5. Alexander ALBONRed Bull

Engineer: How was the bounce initially? Just no rear grip. It

Alexander ALBON: feels like we got oversteer entry to mid, but it's progressive so it feels worse at mid corner than it does at one entry.

    Engineer: Okay, understood.

  6. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Pierre GASLY: The balance is quite tricky, quite disconnected from entry to mid

Engineer: Ok understood, engine 9, position 9, we can close the def entry

  7. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Let me know if you want a front wing adjustment mate, I looked a little bit on the nose, confirm?

Max VERSTAPPEN: I was both on the nose and understeer at high speed, so let's leave it.

    Engineer: OK, understood.

  8. George RUSSELLWilliams

George RUSSELL: The rear field is very light, mid to exit of 7 all the way through 8 and 9.

  9. Romain GROSJEANHaas

Romain GROSJEAN: I keep checking what's going on I've got no rear end boys.

    Engineer: I

Romain GROSJEAN: know tires are cool but almost feels like the suspension is not.

    Engineer: I

Romain GROSJEAN: don't know like one wheel is turning and like a rear wheel steering.

  10. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Okay, that has put your P1, 19.4.

  11. Alexander ALBONRed Bull

Alexander ALBON: It feels like when we're not braking we have understeer mid-corner but still a light entry when we have braking involved it tends to be obviously entry to mid but still a little bit of understeer mid-corner

  12. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Keep recharge off and mode 14, but we are not using the battery at all copy

  13. Esteban OCONRenault

Engineer: Nice improvements on lap time there, so 20.4 in the hard, that's not bad at all.

  14. George RUSSELLWilliams

George RUSSELL: Is the rear right tyre value correct?

Engineer: Yeah, rear right not working.

  15. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Engineer: So Carlos, it looks like second half of the lap. You need to get a better exit, earlier apex and better exit from the two parabolicers and more apex speed and better exit in the chicane.

  16. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Just monitoring the situation with lap times, not many people improving here on second push laps but I'll keep you posted.

  17. Alexander ALBONRed Bull

Alexander ALBON: The front's overheating pretty badly across the lap.

  18. Alexander ALBONRed Bull

Engineer: Your front tires are now cooling which is all good. I think that's still a good place. I'll keep cooling them for now

  19. Pierre GASLYAlphaTauri

Pierre GASLY: I got to do something for turn 7, it's so much worse out.

Engineer: Ok, copy that, we'll find something for P2. There is nothing we can do with the maps now, we've checked already. We'll fix it for the next session.

  20. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: And the box for a front wing, down two

  21. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: We've got to stroll at two and a half, and it'd be Diffinit 8, Diffinit 8, stroll car behind.
