Portuguese Grand Prix 2021: Practice 1 team radio
32 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Portuguese Grand Prix 2021, across 14 drivers. Max VERSTAPPEN had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: Could be some debris somewhere on track or it could be in the pit lane stand by. I think it's pit exit, it is confirmed.
Charles LECLERC: Are the brakes warm? The
Engineer: rears are on the cold side.
Engineer: And surface temps look cool all round.
Engineer: Balance looks tricky. How is it?
Mick SCHUMACHER: Yeah, it's not easy. Reasonably far a bit, but it's okay.
George RUSSELL: Copy, I wouldn't mind doing a couple of consecutive laps here, lacking confidence with
Engineer: the wind.
Engineer: For turn 14 suggest earlier braking to get more minimum speed similar to the simulator compare smaller step than the simulator compare But similar in terms of approach
Daniel RICCIARDO: Okay
Engineer: Okay, so Daniel's just gone quickest on his eighth time lap on this tyre, so I think let's have a good go of it. I think we need to keep building on it.
Engineer: Okay, first time lap attempt, let's put you P3. That's the same lap time as Ricciardo and Bottas. Those lap times for those drivers were at the end of their runs.
Engineer: You can keep pushing. Still going quicker.
Engineer: Ok, let's go for recharge a couple of corners and then charge off. Position is very good.
Engineer: So the tyres have cooled, so just take care, especially fronts.
Engineer: So currently P2, 4 tenths to Valtteri at P1.
Engineer: Ok, time was deleted again, time deleted, Max still pushing, turn 3 now, he's coming for us
Engineer: And we have headwind into turn one, same as before.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Every other lap in turn 3 I lose the rear due to the handbrake effect, I don't know what's going on there.
Engineer: OK, understood, we'll have a look.
Engineer: Ok Pierre, we can have one more lap, but we'll have to make the garage time short for the soft. Please confirm you're happy with that, we'll have to shorten the garage time. Flap and go.
Pierre GASLY: Yeah, that's fine. Ok, let's do that then.
Nicholas LATIFI: anyways cooling again yeah
Engineer: it would be good to try to complete the lap nikki you can still push the rest of the lap yeah
Nicholas LATIFI: but i'm gonna have traffic okay
Engineer: if you pass me at the third one what do you mean with you perez with you perez with you watch perez watch perez no one after perez 11 seconds let's try not to abort too many laps mate we need to build up yeah but
Nicholas LATIFI: what do you want me to do waste a lot of tires yeah
Engineer: the first lap is not the good one we need to build up confidence and temperature in the tires so we need some push lap mate
Nikita MAZEPIN: I bought it because of MiG. Okay,
Engineer: understood, understood.
Engineer: In terms of the traffic, we didn't make clear that you were pushing again, so that's my communication problem. It wasn't Nikita who didn't know you were pushing again.
Engineer: Okay, that's another good lap. Shame about the snap in the exit of the final corner. That was a good lap. You are P4 with that one.
Engineer: Ok let's box now please Esteban, so good job, so currently P10 in the tables and there's a few soft runners up above us as well, so nice work so far, let's box now.
Engineer: I'd like to get onto the softs. If we go for another lap now that would cost us a lap on the softs.
George RUSSELL: What the hell?
Nicholas LATIFI: We have to change the break-off set on the in-and-out line. It's too much. There's always a delta.
Engineer: What a joke mate, I can't even see where I'm going, so much vibration. Listen Max, if it's a safety concern for you, we're happy to box. I'll just visit the dentist after the weekend.
Max VERSTAPPEN: It's impossible to drive it.
Engineer: Wait, was he on the high fuel or low fuel? He's on low fuel but doing sustained running like he but I don't know what he's going to do now Okay,
Mick SCHUMACHER: because I think he was mad that I was in his way. I'm sorry about that. Okay, understood
Mick SCHUMACHER: Can I use DRS to pass the mask? I
Engineer: think it's better just to make a gap if we have a big pace difference, so we've got a huge gap behind, just give them a little gap, give yourself like a 5-7 second gap.
Engineer: Is
Lewis HAMILTON: that it, or are we going again? No, we can go again.
Engineer: Don't slow down. Keep pushing, Yuki. Keep pushing.
Yuki TSUNODA: I am!
Callum ILOTT: Well, thanks guys, that was enjoyable.
Engineer: All right, we'll push you back into the garage for a short and get some comments from you, but on the whole, a busy session, but I think very good. Finished P10 in the end.
