Italian Grand Prix 2023: Practice 2 team radio
57 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the Italian Grand Prix 2023, across 18 drivers. Nico HULKENBERG had the most, with 7.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: And Lando, just a reminder, please do not use exit curve in turn 10.
Engineer: And feedback on the launch, that was target plus one, timing slightly late, target plus one.
Engineer: And more tailwind braking turn 4, more tailwind braking turn 4, all clear, you can go.
Lance STROLL: Big problem. Completely lost power.
Engineer: We're standing by there just checking if we can get the car fired up We'll try and get you back to standby if we need to turn it off attempts. I'll let you know but standing by
Engineer: and Lance tell them to stay away we're still going to try and fire this up
Oscar PIASTRI: I can see something hanging from the rear rig duct it looks like, on the left rear
Engineer: OK Lance, we believe we need to turn the car off and jump out I'm afraid so turn it off P0, it must be P0 and jump out I'm sorry
Yuki TSUNODA: I want to change the helmet to the dark visor.
Engineer: Alright, so hopefully this recovery isn't too long. We're going to keep the turnarounders, or we're just going to sit ready to go basically.
Engineer: Slow okay, and we want to try to avoid pull forwards. We also want to try and do a start so we send you out there now
Engineer: Okay Liam, there will be a big train behind you, you just focus on what you need to do for yourself. And we try to keep the position. There's a very long queue coming behind, position is good.
Engineer: Tire temps are good so I'd say we can just treat this as a normal outlap, no need for any additional energy.
Engineer: These cars ahead are just open laps, cars behind are just finishing laps, that's science 12 seconds
Engineer: okay so i'll take a call the time remaining do you think you can get away with a single if so plus 15 15.
Engineer: So, compared to science data 22.6, half a tenth faster sector 1, and half a tenth slower sector 2, and then faster again sector 3. So, you have faster sector 1 and 3, slower sector 2, compared to science.
Oscar PIASTRI: Yeah, nice, from Hamilton.
George RUSSELL: Just checking for curbstrike at one place for next run
Engineer: We're happy to have a good break just put some energy into the front
Engineer: And suggestion, right hand toggle for turn 4, left hand toggle for turn 6.
Engineer: I
Nico HULKENBERG: think we've got to go back on the ride changes. It feels worse in many places and it's not really gaining low speed. Yeah, okay, understood. We'll get into that.
Engineer: It's a bit of a mix of cars that improved on the second lap. Currently, as our reference, Pierre has not. He did fast, slow, fast and was slower on the second fast. I think he's going for another time now.
Engineer: Okay Liam, that's a good effort. That was very good sector 1 and 2. We were one tensorhead in each sector, and yeah, shame about turn 11. So we'll have a chat, or we can do better there.
Engineer: Main loss to George, exit turn 2 and also exit turn 10, maybe pushing entry turn 8 too much 6
Lewis HAMILTON: tenths coming from the first sector, it's
Engineer: just two straights It's mainly straight line but yeah there is a little bit of a loss turn 1 too
Lewis HAMILTON: Can we put change?
Engineer: Will cost us about 15 minutes of track time at least
Lewis HAMILTON: How far am I down in the highest speed in
Engineer: a straight line? Yeah, so it looks like we're about 5k down to George, so that's a bit more than sim.
Lewis HAMILTON: 6 tenths coming from the first sector, which is just two straights.
Engineer: It's mainly straight line, but yeah, there is a little bit of a loss term 1-2.
Engineer: Oscar, would you like one more lap?
Oscar PIASTRI: I'm happy to box there, for high fuel.
Engineer: Copy, so we box this lap. That is P13. But as I said before, only yourself and Magnussen on hard, other cars on medium, couple of soft runners. So Oscar, from turn 7 to 8, you go Strap 5, no DRS, recharge off, Strap 5.
Logan SARGEANT: No, I messed up,
Engineer: I
Logan SARGEANT: need to abort
Engineer: You sure? You sure?
Logan SARGEANT: Well, I missed turn 1, so... Ok
Engineer: Wait, wait You're not going to get another lap, but... Like that, but ok, that's fine, go cool
Logan SARGEANT: Why?
Engineer: You're not going to get another tour, that's what I mean It was a good opportunity, but anyway, go cool I'll feedback you on tyres
Carlos SAINZ: We are looking into port.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: Okay, Nico, so you're in sync with a ton of cars on back off laps and out laps. So, yes, Sonota, there's a lot of cars ahead, so you should be able to do what you need and find a tow at the end of it.
Engineer: How's the balance, please?
Esteban OCON: A little bit of entry instability into 6 and some on the steer mid then.
Engineer: A
Esteban OCON: little bit too much on the steer and parabolic 11.
Engineer: OK, understood. Would you like to go for a second lap on this time?
Esteban OCON: Yeah. OK,
Engineer: understood. So we'll go for double cool.
Max VERSTAPPEN: We're not going to try again, because I had a ****ing REIT.
Engineer: It's not qualifying, Max.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, I know, but I want to have a proper REIT.
Engineer: And we need a good exit turn 2. We see that you had a snap there.
Engineer: Only loss to Kevin is turn 4, breaking your lap overall was 0.3 quicker.
Engineer: I
Carlos SAINZ: hope the call will not work,
Engineer: let's do a quick turn around yeah we are triggered for that, place to focus is turn 11, we can check together pit confirm and box will be stop on the marks full crew pit stop and engine off, pit confirm
Engineer: Okay Liam, so second push is a little bit irrelevant, nobody improved and the tyres can't take it. On the first push it was turn 8, main loss, so we'll have a look at this.
Liam LAWSON: Yeah, copy copy. Copy that, yeah, I honestly, I just didn't have the, really the big grip increase that I was expecting. We had no toe, which sucked, but yeah, I had good traction out of two, I noticed a difference there, but entry of one, yeah,
Engineer: I
Liam LAWSON: didn't mind.
ZHOU Guanyu: They have more O-Brain, the last ones, is it ok if I go ahead to Pedal?
Engineer: Pedal 1, Pedal 1, stay ahead of Paris, might be high fuel
Carlos SAINZ: I think we start here to protect the rear, understood,
Engineer: makes sense to us, 9 time lapse on the board, and status 3 to start,
Carlos SAINZ: how many laps?
Engineer: 9 time lapse, 9, and torque 1 with this engine, torque 1
Engineer: So you have recharge on currently, we can go recharge off when you're ready. Yeah but I'm at the bottom of the pack guys, so I will recharge and then go... Yeah yeah, no no, that's what I said, recharge off when you're ready and push, all good.
Engineer: So we're looking at eight time lapse to the flag gap to Hamilton at three seconds
Engineer: Turn 6 was good, 3.5. Perez, 4 behind, medium-high fuel.
Engineer: Just look out, Checo's off the track for the moment, but he's looking to come on track, you're clear for now Red flag Max, dash positive
Pierre GASLY: I'm happy to queue, when it will restart.
Engineer: Roger that, and a bit of start feedback, the drop was good and the drive out was a bit overdriven.
Engineer: And Liam, that's 7 minutes to the checkout flag, 7 minutes, so we get ready and we see if we can go out for a few laps.
Engineer: It'll be green in 30, keep it running, it'll be two times before the flag, two times.
Engineer: So, Oscar, I'm keen to learn about these brakes where you have to, let's say, wrestle with other cars a bit. I'm happy to use DRS on these laps if you're close enough, and I prefer to learn a bit about the following and overtaking. You should get a few timed laps. There is currently 30 seconds margin to that. Obviously, there'll be some spread this lap.
Engineer: So we've got 20 seconds in hand to get those two laps
Engineer: Starting last lap. No management needed.
Engineer: so you will take the flag you can push to exit 10 push to exit 10
Engineer: Did you learn anything?
Max VERSTAPPEN: No, not really.
Engineer: Well done.
Engineer: I'd like to cool the car and tyres as best we can please, cool the car and tyres as best we can on the way to the grid.
Engineer: The
Nico HULKENBERG: last uh the previous start I did was the clutch drop too deep because it was very weird
Engineer: clutch
Nico HULKENBERG: drop with a lot of oscillation and vibration.
Engineer: Your clutch drop was okay it's uh the stuff we're working on so just do the same clutch drop it'll be okay so mode slow.
Pierre GASLY: Let's check the connection behind the radio button because sometimes I press it and it doesn't switch on.
Engineer: Copy that, we'll have a look.
Engineer: Ok, good job today, it was tidy, and happy birthday.
Carlos SAINZ: Thank you.
Lewis HAMILTON: I'd rather box and get this change and move just way out of bed.
Engineer: Yeah, I think that would wipe out most of our program, that's the problem with this.
Max VERSTAPPEN: That middle section was shocking with the traffic.
Sergio PEREZ: What a mess these guys are creating. Come on. Come on. We need to be better than this
Yuki TSUNODA: Well, see, again, Lewis just didn't move away.
Engineer: Yeah, I saw that copy.
Yuki TSUNODA: It's okay. I'll just send it to him. No, it was Russell.
