British Grand Prix 2024: Race team radio

45 radio messages were recorded during race at the British Grand Prix 2024, across 14 drivers. 42 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Max VERSTAPPEN had the most, with 9.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Charles LECLERC: The tractor that you saw earlier, that's what I saw.

  2. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: There's no standing water whatsoever but the track feels very slippery, quite strange

  3. Carlos SAINZFerrari

Engineer: No more rain, maybe one hour into the race, but nothing till then.

  4. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Alexander ALBON: I think we've got front left damage, maybe.

Engineer: Copy, we've got some aero damage. Pressures are okay.

  5. Logan SARGEANTWilliams

Logan SARGEANT: Alex had a big piece of body work come off.

  6. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: And there is a small shower that might appear on lap six, but it might just affect turn 15. We'll keep that dated.

  7. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Expecting the increased rain around lap 16.

  8. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: Rain expected in seven laps, lasting for 10 minutes.

  9. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: And Lando, when the rain comes, it's going to be a racing decision of when is the right conditions to take it, so we'll keep it simple.

  10. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: So expect the rain to last around five minutes, then there'll be a window of ten minutes before a longer cell.

  11. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

Nico HULKENBERG: Just spitting or you expect to have to go in just

Engineer: spitting initially, but we think it could become real a lap or two in

  12. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: Just keep me posted if anyone's going off, that's

Engineer: going out slightly harder now Will do

  13. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: We expect heavy rain now. It's gonna happen soon

  14. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: So target would be to try to survive this pocket of rain, Max, if you can. Obviously your call if conditions worsen too much.

  15. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Yeah, they both rejoined very unsafely.

  16. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And Luce, we think it's time to jump to inters, let us know what you think.

    Lewis HAMILTON: Nope.

Engineer: OK, copy. It's dry in a lot of places. OK.

  17. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Sergio PEREZ: Oh, it's too dry, man. It's too f***ing dry.

  18. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: This is the beginning of this 30 minute batch of rain, so we just have to find the right time to stop

  19. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Oscar PIASTRI: It's too early for it to see up

  20. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Great call for the Inter. Come on, we're back in the race here.

  21. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: Okay Lucy, this is our time.

  22. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: The tires are taking a lot.

    Engineer: Copy that, Max.

  23. George RUSSELLMercedes

Engineer: So we need to box box, we're tired of the car George

  24. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: Just info, George retired with a suspected water system issue.

  25. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

    Lewis HAMILTON: Suns coming out

  26. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Still happy staying out for the moment, Max? Yeah, for the moment, yeah. You're faster than the cars ahead. Keep it going.

  27. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Engineer: Competitor cars do not have medium, currently we think medium is the right tyre, 15 laps to go. Yes, yes, it's the best.

  28. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

    Engineer: So Norris, same tyre.

Lewis HAMILTON: Hello, leave me to it mate.

  29. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: We're seeing signs of damage on the front left for the cars ahead

  30. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: Get in there, Lewis! You're the man! You're the man! Oh, mate, I have been waiting for this. Jeez. Thank you so much, guys. It means a lot. It means a lot to get this one.

  31. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: This one means a lot to us all. Love your photo.

  32. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Engineer: It was worth taking the shot on that first inter, hit the cross over, just dried up enough after that. Ah,

Sergio PEREZ: didn't work, the gamble.

  33. Lance STROLLAston Martin

    Lance STROLL: Yeah, good effort.

    Engineer: It

Lance STROLL: was tricky there at one point in the race. I couldn't see very well with the visor and stuff, so I felt like that cost me a lot of time, but still good points.

  34. Lance STROLLAston Martin

Engineer: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it made the right decisions at the right time to like Canada really so run switch warm-up run switch warm-up

  40. Valtteri BOTTASKick Sauber

Engineer: P15 for us, it was a really difficult race Valtteri, but you did well, I

Engineer: Yeah I was going to say the exact same thing.

  41. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

Engineer: Checkered flag, Niko, checkered flag. P6.

Nico HULKENBERG: Brilliant. Bam, bam, bam, bam. Bloody stressful. Ah. Heh.

Nico HULKENBERG: think the soft... Yeah. Need to reconsider, but made it a little bit more challenging. But awesome job, guys. Very well done on the updates team. They really make a big difference. We'll be good from here. Good ride.

  42. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

  43. Logan SARGEANTWilliams

    Engineer: Is

    Logan SARGEANT: that it?

Logan SARGEANT: Yeah good job guys, it's a shame we got caught out a little bit with that inter-stop, but yeah it is what it is, good work this weekend, I think it was a good recovery considering we missed P1, so thank you guys, let's keep pushing. Well done Logan, good really strong race, good calls in those tricky conditions, but those were tricky and you got it right, well done. Congratulations on the points as well.
