French Grand Prix 2018: Practice 2 team radio
39 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the French Grand Prix 2018, across 17 drivers. 34 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Pierre GASLY had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: On the prime tyre, we'll target 7 timed laps, so 4 push, alternating fast-slow-fast. If you can push hard on this outlap, particularly through turn 10, get the fronts working.
Engineer: synchronize eighth gear synchronize eighth gear
Engineer: Esteban, no start, no start.
Engineer: And Stroll still the car behind you, he's entering turn 8 now, behind Stroll there's a gap back to Leclerc, and just be careful of Stroll, he's the car behind, approaching turn 3 on a time lap, and Fernando wind direction, it is a headwind down the back straight, the straight you're on now, but much weaker than it was in P1.
Pierre GASLY: The laptop is not reset.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: And Fernando, we need to box now, we need to box now, you can continue to drive normally.
Fernando ALONSO: OK, OK.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: Sorry for Grosjean, it looks like he changed his program.
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah, I was on the way. I didn't realize he was coming.
Engineer: Yeah, he wasn't cooled down on the air about his.
Brendon HARTLEY: Understand mid to exit, turn 5. Sorry, turn 5 is a low speed. I have more of his there.
Engineer: He's actually in turn 6. Turn 5 to 6, we can't carry the speed.
Brendon HARTLEY: Yeah, losing the rear, I can't get on power. Fraction.
Pierre GASLY: Hi everyone, it's Pierre, so I'm
Engineer: going
Pierre GASLY: to take you for a lap on board, pre-record, last lap of my run, turn 1 and 2, pretty fast chicane, can use a lot of kerb, full sector, coming into turn 3, lane braking, run a lot of kerb on the inside, quite tricky part right now with the wind, change quite a lot compared to P1, really important exit, before the backstreet, turn 3, we can have a lot of track on the exit, time before the street, I guess one of the overtaking opportunities during the race, hopefully we're going to be able to put a good show, turn 8 and 9,
Engineer: really lane braking,
Pierre GASLY: important to focus on the exit as well, pretty exciting corner coming,
Engineer: senior, flat
Pierre GASLY: out, I'm not properly fast on that lap because we're overtaking the backstreet but still 300 kph, and most exciting one, turn 11, a lot of speed, wind makes it pretty tricky in the middle, can run a lot of kerb on the exit, pretty long corners, quite difficult for the tyres, again can run a lot of kerb, and yeah, just really amazing to be driving at home for my first Formula 1 season. In my country, and yeah, I hope to enjoy that lap, hopefully we're
Engineer: going
Pierre GASLY: to put a good show on Sunday, end of the weekend guys.

Sebastian VETTEL: It's quite windy and it seems also quite gusty, so the track is a lot slower than FP1.
Carlos SAINZ: There's something wrong, especially with the torque map, in the low speed, when the torque map can't see. So watch out for Hamilton starting the timelapse. I suddenly have a lot of spikes over here looking. It's not consistent. Okay, so this will be your in-lap, we're looking at it. So you've got Ricciardo coming up.
Engineer: Okay Lewis, that's P1, so two and a half tenths to Valtteri, P2. Valtteri was finding a time on his second attempt.
Engineer: Kolyposh, Kolyposh.
Engineer: The tires are good, we are happy.
Engineer: That was a good lap until turn 11, then probably you... I struggled in turn 11. No, but everybody struggled there. So we need to be a little bit more conservative and try to concentrate on the exit more. Mid corner and exit.
Engineer: OK, we're just going to get the tires back up to temp and be ready to go right back out. Any comments on that short initial feeling? It felt much better. OK, that's good. All right, so, well, your tires are scrubbed, but the thing is you'll be able to get back up to the kind of temp we wanted, so even with that temp you're OK. OK, so we'll just be ready to go as soon as we clear this car.

Engineer: This is formation lap practice so focus on brakes and tires and we come through the pit lane for practice starts
Engineer: Short stint on ultra, and long on super. Ok, so I stop now? I don't do another start? No, no. This formation lap you come through the pit lane for another practice start.

Engineer: Keep 7 in corner 10 for performance.
Engineer: Just keep the temps up just to a little bit of a CSL just to get us some data But keep the temps up as you come in
