Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2019: Practice 1 team radio
50 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2019, across 14 drivers. Carlos SAINZ had the most, with 9.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Every message, in the order it happened
Engineer: I'm ready to check exit turn 7, this is where I talk to you a lot in the race
Engineer: So it reminds us to use the brakes firmly.
Daniel RICCIARDO: If it's going to take 10 minutes or something to get these rinks off, I might jump out and go to the toilet, otherwise I'll stay in.
Alexander ALBON: Highlands feels pretty good. A little bit of oversteer at low speed.
Engineer: High
Alexander ALBON: speed feels pretty good.
Engineer: Copy, thanks mate.
Engineer: So you have some margin to stress the tires a little bit on the outlet
Engineer: Just make sure you do a big break for 8 or 11 just to get the break temps up
Engineer: Okay Alex second lap at 39.9, Bottas second push lap at 37.9, he was a tenth quicker on his second push.
Engineer: Would suggest a very slow cool down lap to try and get these rear tyre temperatures down
Engineer: I think you had the funk so you did the out lap you did funk 2 and you did the big adjuster and you had that for the initial part of the lap I don't think it mattered too much yeah it's too complicated to do all these things yeah understood we need to yeah just think of a smarter way okay
Max VERSTAPPEN: Just turn 8, out of the corner, the engine braking, it's not great.
Romain GROSJEAN: Strangely, the feeling is not as bad as the lap time.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: The brakes are not good at all.
Engineer: Copy.
Engineer: The
Lewis HAMILTON: engine feels really slow.
Engineer: suggest top right modifier brake balance forwards for turn 8
Engineer: Is
Lewis HAMILTON: there another strat mode?
Engineer: No, this next one will be strat 2.
Engineer: And make sure you've got the car fully over to the left before turn 20. I don't know if there's any more room there
Engineer: And we can try shape 5, shape 5 for this next lap. Yeah,
Romain GROSJEAN: no, I don't have enough confidence on the rears. No
Engineer: problem.
Romain GROSJEAN: Maybe later in the evening, but good reminder.
Engineer: OK, so deficits to Bottas. A couple of tenths at turn 8-9, which is where you've noted. A tenth and a half at turn 14, and two tenths at turn 21.
Engineer: Main place to find time is turn one. There's a little bit in braking there
Lewis HAMILTON: Big separation in front brakes.
Engineer: Yeah, copy we've seen that
George RUSSELL: Kai that she felt in a half decent window struggled with the
Engineer: rear
Engineer: Let's try to put a bit more braking energy on energy back in the front tires on the second cool down
Engineer: We can do a few more of those DRS activations on the next lap after the start from the box.
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, anyway, there's a lot of track evolution, but this traffic in the last sector is very pain.
Lewis HAMILTON: I got lip on, lip on Ok,
Engineer: copy
Engineer: And if another driver default is 0-1, driver default 0-1, so HPP default 0-1.
Engineer: So we'll box the end of the slat, the protection should have cleared.
Lewis HAMILTON: Chester, still in for knock?
Engineer: So it's just a box, it should be ok.
Engineer: I'm
George RUSSELL: feeling a bit of vibration on the outboard side of both front axle, both front tires and the front axle at higher speed.
Alexander ALBON: That feels like a bit of vibration with these size
Romain GROSJEAN: I'm having fun with the Williams this morning, am I not?
Alexander ALBON: There's so much at the steer
Engineer: And probably try 6th gear in turn 20.
Engineer: Can
Lewis HAMILTON: you make a judgment for my front brakes, the left is still cold.
Engineer: We're just discussing we need to make some slightly bigger changes we think.
Engineer: So Carlos if the car does have too much understeer our advice is to come down on the torque switch down on the torque switch during the lap
Daniel RICCIARDO: I think it's
Engineer: down at the back. Yeah, copy that.
Carlos SAINZ: Like I wasn't pushing but I felt like the truck was very slippery even if I didn't push
Engineer: Yeah, understood to see that in the data, Carlos We do see flames from out the back of Ricardo's car in the final corner. So probably there was oil
Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, there's soil all over the place.
Pierre GASLY: Ricardo lost the engine. I put oil everywhere. I'm full of oil
Engineer: So have a look from turn 20 to turn 21, there's likely to be a lot of cement dust so you may want to go offline and keep your tyres clean starting the lap and be cautious finishing your lap.
Engineer: Carlos, the track is shown slippery in turn 20 to 21. We've seen them putting cement dust down there. Okay.
Engineer: And we have RS Magic on, RS Magic on.
Engineer: Rear tyre temps aren't as low as I expected.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah, we'll go after this lap.
Engineer: OK, you want to push this lap then?
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yes, I will. Copy.
Engineer: that was down so russell is high field behind he's eight seconds behind we want a faster out lap faster cool down lap checker to keep the temps just call the surface
Carlos SAINZ: I don't want to cool the tire too much.
Engineer: Copy.
Nico HULKENBERG: Miroslav,
Engineer: I
Nico HULKENBERG: braked in quite a lot on the straight, that's
Engineer: why
Nico HULKENBERG: I'm hard to see Kath.
Engineer: Copy that, sorry mate.
Carlos SAINZ: Why so much clipping all of a sudden?
Sebastian VETTEL: You okay? Yeah, I'm okay.
Engineer: And give me a quick one, are you happy to keep these brakes for FP2?
Kimi RAIKKONEN: No, absolutely not. The front is a lot better, but I still don't have a bite, so I need some proper brakes. It's
Engineer: the
Kimi RAIKKONEN: last race, so let's stop saving and put some decent brakes that we can slow down.
Engineer: Is that the end of the session? That is unfortunately the end of the session. They're not going to restart it or let us go out on two starts. I'm absolutely dying for ****. I'm going to jump out the cricket and the bullet from the gun. Okay, understood.
