Belgian Grand Prix 2019: Practice 2 team radio

30 radio messages were recorded during practice 2 at the Belgian Grand Prix 2019, across 13 drivers. Nico HULKENBERG had the most, with 4.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. George RUSSELLWilliams

Engineer: Okay, straight out, track is clear, so no DRS to turn 4, no DRS between 4 and 5.

    George RUSSELL: Roger.

Engineer: Radio check, turn 3. Copy, turn 3.

  2. George RUSSELLWilliams

Engineer: tyre wise we probably need another 10 on the front and about seven on the rear currently just for a second

  3. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Engineer: 0.5 quicker, middle and third sector you're a lot quicker, first sector you're slower, I don't know if it's just the straight.

  4. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Engineer: Okay, so we can get our front brakes back up to temps, warm up the front brakes, tire temps look okay, just try and keep the fronts, and we'll do the K1 hold out of turn four this lap, we'll do K1 hold out of turn four, remember mode push, mode push.

  5. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: For reference we're aiming for the lower range of tyre temperature compared to the last run of the morning.

  6. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Pierre GASLY: Yeah, I've lost the rear antenna 8. Can you check the engine braking? I feel like it's doing some strange... It's not working properly. As soon as I try to use more...

  7. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Yeah, misfire at the last corner

Engineer: Okay, understood, we're on it now

  8. Charles LECLERCFerrari

    Charles LECLERC: Braking for 7.

    Engineer: APEX speed, mid-corner speed.

  9. Carlos SAINZMcLaren

Engineer: If possible you can help Lando out of turn 15 again gap now five seconds cars behind Lando are slow

  10. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: So currently P2, 2 tenths to Leclerc P1

    Lewis HAMILTON: Clever double cool

Engineer: Yeah copy, it will eat into mileage but should be OK at the moment You

Lewis HAMILTON: said mileage, wasn't a problem mate

Engineer: Yeah it depends if you want to use the laps for timelapse or just cool down laps We've got Kyle starting laps now You were purple in the middle sector on that one 6 tenths down to Leclerc in sector 1, just half a tenth in sector 3

  11. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Um, just before I start...

  12. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Just before I started braking for the last chicane I heard something in the engine turn off so the last chicane drivability was not good and also out of the corner the power release was not there.

Engineer: Understood, thanks Max. OK we understand the issue, it did clear itself so all good. OK that was a couple of hundreds behind Leclerc, we are 6 tenths down in sector 1 you were purple, 6 tenths quicker than him in sector 2 and we are amongst the quickest in sector 3.

  16. Pierre GASLYRed Bull

Pierre GASLY: Do you think we could do two cool down because for me the rears are too hot

    Pierre GASLY: let's do this

    Engineer: Copy.

  20. Sergio PEREZRacing Point

Engineer: Check out, there's not a lot of deg, but your pace has been good in the first few laps. We're happy with the tyres, just you can manage in high speed if you feel performance drop.

  21. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: Max on the exit of turn one, can you press and hold the overtake button for four seconds please?

  22. Nico HULKENBERGRenault

Engineer: OK Niko, we're going to box for the mediums now, we're going to come down one turn on the front wing, do you think that's OK, or would you like more or less?

    Engineer: It

Carlos SAINZ: feels like I've lost a lot of aerobalance.

Engineer: Carlos, we're looking. Aero data looks OK. Aero OK?

Carlos SAINZ: OK, box 4, 3 turns up, off-flap. See if something changes. We are too slow like this.

    Engineer: Copy.

Engineer: Yeah, they are slow to update and it's difficult to...

Charles LECLERC: I'll explain more in the carriage. We are done for FU2?
