Spanish Grand Prix 2019: Practice 1 team radio
40 radio messages were recorded during practice 1 at the Spanish Grand Prix 2019, across 16 drivers. 35 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Nico HULKENBERG had the most, with 5.
These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Engineer: Radio check, Danny, radio check.
Engineer: Radio check Danny, radio check.
Daniil KVYAT: Radon clear.
Engineer: Copy. Reminder, constant speed position 3, third gear. Houston 3.
Engineer: Checo, so you clear 16 behind. We need one more lap and we need an early straight line braking before turn one. We need to go to low speed with no steer. You've got Gasly 15 behind.
Engineer: And another Aero P4 5th Gear Cruise through Turn 3, please. And a final Aero P4 5th Gear Cruise exit Turn 9, please.
Pierre GASLY: Can you check I felt loss of power out of the last chicane?
Engineer: Copy, we'll look. For your info, we will correct that issue for the next run. So continue like it is for this run.
Pierre GASLY: You're really quiet on the radio, I didn't... could not hear everything. Can you repeat?
Engineer: We will correct your issue at the end of the lap for the next run.
Pierre GASLY: OK, copy.
Engineer: Radio latched.
Engineer: Before turn 9, tyre 5, 5th gear, tyre 5, 5th gear, then tyre 6, 7th gear if you can, tyre 6.
Engineer: Possible gravel exit turn 12.
Max VERSTAPPEN: Jesus Christ!
Engineer: Yep, I understand Max.
Sebastian VETTEL: Check on board. It looked like exit of turn 15. There was something coming off or flying off from the front left corner. So if you can have a look.
Engineer: Copy that.
Engineer: Mode push, mode push.
George RUSSELL: Struggling a lot with the rear in sector 3, high speed understeer mid to exit, we could have got away with more front wing, so apologies for that. Traction is very poor.
Engineer: Good lap dude, good laps. We'll use spark 2 for the next push and we'll use mode push for the next push as well
George RUSSELL: but I'm really struggling really struggling slow speed mid to exit traction the rear feels light it's like I'm losing load through mid to exit turn 16 for example and it's obviously easy flat don't have that support
Engineer: okay trial multi B diff exit 4 that's at 12 o'clock multi B diff exit 4
Engineer: So Grosjean has just been through the gravel, turn 7, 8, so just look out for that.
Engineer: We can go spark three now spark three
Lewis HAMILTON: Tire prep is terrible. Rear tires are done.
Sebastian VETTEL: Ok, it was a bit of a messy lap with traffic and stuff. I'll cool down and go again. Ok, understood.
Engineer: I
Daniel RICCIARDO: love the way they slam. Just too much understeer in the high speed.
Engineer: Ok, understood.
Max VERSTAPPEN: There's something when I'm accelerating Norris behind outlet coming through we
Engineer: need to box max box, please
Engineer: Any further balance comments?
Daniel RICCIARDO: Yes, so I feel it's just the high speed understeer that's got worse and then a late engine for low speed, more turn 12, that was more difficult than the previous one.
Engineer: OK, understood.
Engineer: You said we box this lap? Yes Miko, boxing this lap please, can we have an aero P4 5th gear cruise exit at turn 9?
Engineer: Copy that. Practice your stopping position.
George RUSSELL: What's going on with the rear entry of the corners?
Engineer: OK, what's the problem?
George RUSSELL: Just no support.
Engineer: Rear temps are five less than starting the opening lap currently. They'll come up fairly quickly.
Engineer: Darren it's Tom Sorry Carlos Hello
Carlos SAINZ: Tom, I'm Darren
Engineer: Cover tyre 2, tyre 2 for no DRS. OK, and go
Lance STROLL: 1.
Engineer: Yeah, it will be go 1, you're OK in out 2 at the moment, out 2 is good and we'll go go 1.
Engineer: And stay out. Straight into race run now. Stay out, race run now.
Engineer: So pace is currently good, just monitoring the DEG, it's potentially higher than others, with more management in 3 and 9 than others, more feedback soon.
Engineer: OK, I'm going to see how much it flips. Let's stay out and keep going while we can learn about the tyre. Stay out while you can.
George RUSSELL: I've lost a mirror.
Engineer: Did you copy regarded mirror? Yeah, AFOP, AFOP.
Audio only, no transcript available for this message.
Engineer: OK Lando, I'd like you to drive at 101% please, 101%, do not look after it at all.
Engineer: Carlos, we have the information we need. Box this lap for launch practice. Call the car in sector 3.
Lance STROLL: Jesus Christ, I hit the grass, I'm in trouble.
Engineer: Copy that. Car is state alpha, so you're OK to get out and normally.
Nico HULKENBERG: Dave, what is the default again to clear the safety
Engineer: car beep? A56 Niko, A56
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Were we okay to... there was no... on the scale, they didn't ask us on the scale?
Engineer: No, I didn't see any lights. I will double check with Beat, why you think you saw a light or? I don't know,
Kimi RAIKKONEN: just check now.
Engineer: Okay, switch off. No, Kimi, normally I have an alert in my software, I didn't see anything, so... I can replay the video quickly.
Kimi RAIKKONEN: Yeah, just ask them, I mean, somebody can ask them, I guess, I mean, probably there was not... He
Engineer: was green, Kimi, we're just checking you on board, all good, all good.
