Liam Lawson's 2026 season, measured: a second chance in the Red Bull, three races long
Red Bull dropped Liam Lawson after two races in 2025. When Isack Hadjar broke his wrist, Lawson got the seat back for Zandvoort, Monza and Madrid and scored 14 points in it. Every race of his 2026, and the radio.
In 2025 Red Bull gave Liam Lawson two races before replacing him with Yuki Tsunoda. In August 2026, with Isack Hadjar's wrist broken, they gave him the car back.
He has now driven it three more times: seventh at Zandvoort after a ten-second penalty, fourteenth at Monza after starting from the pit lane, and sixth in Madrid. That is 14 points in the Red Bull, on top of 45 in eleven races for Racing Bulls, for 59 in all and ninth in the championship. Whether he keeps the seat in Baku depends on Hadjar's recovery.

Three races in the Red Bull
Zandvoort. His first race back in the car, at the last Dutch Grand Prix. He finished seventh after a ten-second penalty for ignoring yellow flags.
Monza. The car took a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger and exhaust, among other parts, beyond the season's allocation, which meant a back-of-the-grid start. Red Bull then changed the rear wing and suspension set-up under parc fermé, which sent him to the pit lane instead. He made contact with Nico Hulkenberg during the race, and apologised to the team on the radio:
