Isack Hadjar's 2026 season, measured: two podiums, a broken wrist, and points in every race since
Isack Hadjar scored 71 points in his first eleven races for Red Bull, then broke his wrist and missed three rounds. He came back with third in Baku and has scored in every race since: 107 points, eighth in the championship.
Isack Hadjar missed three races with a fractured wrist, came back in Baku, qualified fourth and finished third. It is his second podium of 2026, and he took it with his engineer reporting a gearbox vibration.
He had not raced since the Hungarian Grand Prix in July. Over the summer break he fractured his wrist hitting a punching bag in training, and he missed Zandvoort, Monza and Madrid while Liam Lawson drove his Red Bull. He returned at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 26 September, out-qualified his team mate's grid slot by four places, and finished on the podium in a race that took six cars out.

Monaco: a podium with the power going
Hadjar started fifth at Monaco and finished third. For a long stretch of that race his car was not delivering full power, and the radio followed the problem as it happened:

Spa: sixth, and the podium he thought he had
At Spa he started twenty-first and finished sixth. His message afterwards was less about the recovery than about what he thought was possible:

Baku: back in the car, on the podium, with a gearbox problem
He qualified fourth, 0.974 seconds off Russell's pole and less than two tenths behind Charles Leclerc's Ferrari. In the race he ran fourth until the two safety cars on laps 31 and 36, came out of them third, and stayed there to the flag, 10.704 seconds behind the winner.
It was not a comfortable afternoon. Mid race, his engineer reported a problem and Hadjar confirmed he could feel it:
The engineer said "so we do see some vibration in the gearbox, nothing on tyres at present, nothing on brakes", and Hadjar answered "yeah I feel this, also going into turn 2, hope nothing too bad because it doesn't sound really good ok".
Earlier, running in a train of cars, he was asked what clear air would be worth:
The engineer asked "Isaac, if you had free air, how much faster could you go?" and he answered "Two, three tenths, certainly."
With Hadjar out, Liam Lawson moved up from Racing Bulls to drive his Red Bull at Zandvoort, Monza and Madrid, and Yuki Tsunoda left his reserve role to take Lawson's Racing Bulls seat. Lawson finished seventh at Zandvoort and started Monza from the pit lane. With Hadjar back, Lawson returned to Racing Bulls for Baku and finished twelfth.
The standings still show the effect. Red Bull's constructors' total is 382 points, while Max Verstappen and Hadjar have 368 between them: the other 14 are Lawson's, scored in Hadjar's car. That is also why Racing Bulls' total of 108 is lower than their drivers' combined tally suggests. Constructors' points follow the car, not the driver.
Since Baku: four more scores
He has scored in all four races since his return. At Sepang he went from eighth to fifth in a race that started wet. In Singapore he was out in Q1 with car trouble, started from the pit lane after power unit changes and took tenth.
In Austin he qualified third, ahead of everyone but Antonelli and his own team mate, and was running ahead of Verstappen on a longer first stint when the call came:

"OK, I think let Max pass into turn 12". He let him through and finished sixth, while Verstappen took third (US GP 2026 race report). In Mexico City George Russell tipped him into a spin at turn 6 on the first lap. Russell got a 10 second penalty, Hadjar pitted on lap 7 and recovered to ninth (Mexico City GP 2026 race report).

Four rounds remain: Sao Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Hadjar is eighth, 24 points clear of Liam Lawson, and Red Bull have moved past McLaren for third in the constructors' championship, 382 to 365. The Sao Paulo times are in our Sao Paulo GP 2026 preview.
