Every Mexico City Grand Prix winner, measured: ten races since 2015, five for Verstappen
Ten Formula 1 races have been held in Mexico City since the Grand Prix returned in 2015. Max Verstappen won five, pole has won five, Lewis Hamilton clinched two titles here, and Sergio Perez's best at home is third. Every winner, grid slot and safety car, measured.
Max Verstappen has won the Mexico City Grand Prix five times, in 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Nobody else has won it more than twice.
Ten races have been held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez since Formula 1 came back to Mexico in 2015. Half of them were won from pole. Lewis Hamilton won two, and clinched two of his world championships here without winning either race. And the home driver, Sergio Perez, has stood on the podium twice, both times in third. In 2026 he comes back with Cadillac, for the eleventh race, on Sunday 1 November.

Two of the three full safety cars came out on the first lap, in 2021 and 2024. The run from the grid to turn 1 is one of the longest of the season, and the thin air at 2,240 metres means less drag, so cars arrive at the first corner at very high speed and close together. Hamilton's two titles
Hamilton won the Mexico race in 2016 and 2019, but the two afternoons that mattered most to him here were ones he did not win. In 2017 he finished ninth after first-lap contact with Sebastian Vettel and still took his fourth title. In 2018 he finished fourth and clinched his fifth. Both times Verstappen won the race.
2021: Perez on the podium at home
Perez finished third in 2021, the first Mexican driver on the podium of his home Grand Prix. Red Bull won the race with Verstappen, and Perez's message after the flag was for the crowd:
"Thanks to all the fans. This is an amazing day." He was third again in 2022. In 2023, starting fifth, he tried to go around the outside at turn 1 on the first lap, touched Charles Leclerc and retired. His 2026 return, with a Cadillac that has yet to score, is measured in Sergio Perez's 2026.
2025: Norris from pole
Lando Norris won from pole in 2025, the first McLaren win in Mexico City in the modern era, with Charles Leclerc second and Verstappen third. On the slow-down lap:
"beautiful weekend. Well done everyone. Incredible result. Wonderful car."
