Pierre Gasly's 2026 season, measured: a first pole at Monza, and thirteen finishes from fourteen
Pierre Gasly took the first pole of his career at Monza in 2026, the only one of the year not taken by Mercedes or McLaren. He has 41 points, tenth in the championship, and has retired once. Every race, measured, and the radio from the pole lap.
On 5 September 2026, Pierre Gasly put an Alpine on pole for the Italian Grand Prix, 0.060 seconds ahead of George Russell. It was the first pole of his Formula 1 career, at the circuit where he won his only Grand Prix in 2020.
It is also the only pole of 2026 not taken by a Mercedes or a McLaren. The rest of his season has been quieter and more consistent than that Saturday suggests: 41 points, tenth in the championship, and one retirement in fourteen races, in Miami. He scored 32 of those points in the first seven rounds and 9 in the seven since.

Monza
Gasly has history at Monza. In 2020, driving for AlphaTauri, he won the Italian Grand Prix, still the only win of his career. Six years later he came back with an Alpine that had switched to Mercedes power units for the new regulations, and took pole. His reaction when the lap was confirmed:

The best finisher on the grid
Alpine have failed to finish one race in fourteen across both cars, the best record of any team, and that single retirement is Gasly's in Miami. On the same Mercedes engine, Mercedes have three non-finishes, McLaren six and Williams eight. For a driver in a midfield car, finishing is how points arrive: six of his nine points finishes came from starting outside the top eight. Every team's record is in every 2026 F1 retirement.
In Austria, where he finished thirteenth, the radio was about the heat rather than the car:
"And the water is like 45 degrees, yeah." His engineer's reply: "like 50."
Against Colapinto
In the thirteen races both Alpines finished, Gasly was ahead nine times and Colapinto four: in Canada, at Silverstone, at Spa and in Madrid. Colapinto has finished every race, and matched Gasly's best result with sixth in Canada. The team's season, side by side, is in Alpine's 2026.
What is left
Gasly signed a contract in 2025 that keeps him at Alpine until the end of 2028. Nine rounds remain this season, starting with Baku on 26 September, a circuit where he finished third in 2021.
