Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2024: Race team radio

81 radio messages were recorded during race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2024, across 20 drivers. 80 of them have a transcript; the rest are audio only. Max VERSTAPPEN had the most, with 11.

These are transcripts of real team radio audio, produced by speech recognition and presented as an archive rather than as edited prose. Radio is clipped and noisy, so wording can be imperfect. Each message is attributed to the driver or their engineer, and the original audio is playable in the archive.

Who was on the radio

Every message, in the order it happened

  1. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: And another start at the end of the pit lane. No need to rush, it's a bit of a queue. This lap, if you would use your preferred gears around the lap and we can reassess.

Max VERSTAPPEN: Ah, it's actually okay what I'm doing.

Engineer: Okay, I think that's better.

  2. Pierre GASLYAlpine

Engineer: And how's the balance, Pierre?

Pierre GASLY: Quite a lot of bouncing.

  3. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Engineer: Okay, so any issues with the car?

    Sergio PEREZ: No, all sensible.

    Engineer: Lovely.

  4. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: You're super loud, there's a lot of crackling, really loud

  5. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: And Clutch was on target.

  6. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

Audio only, no transcript available for this message.

  7. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: Some contact in turn seven. Yeah, copy. We're having a look at that now

  8. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Engineer: If Daniel has DOS, we just missed it.

  9. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

    Nico HULKENBERG: Yes! Come on!

  10. Fernando ALONSOAston Martin

Engineer: So we're looking at plan A, maybe plan A minus two.

    Fernando ALONSO: Copy, agree.

  11. Carlos SAINZFerrari

Carlos SAINZ: Thank you very much.

  12. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: The car is quite over-serious though.

  13. Esteban OCONAlpine

Esteban OCON: I don't think this level of pushing is sustainable.

    Engineer: Understood.

  14. Alexander ALBONWilliams

    Alexander ALBON: I think I've got a problem. It's

    Engineer: not

    Alexander ALBON: on properly.

  15. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: Do you think we're racing who we expect?

Lando NORRIS: Yeah, I think so.

  16. George RUSSELLMercedes

Engineer: So George, we are happy with suspension. Everything is good.

  17. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: Mr. Red, left is for the very weak.

  18. Fernando ALONSOAston Martin

Fernando ALONSO: Front brakes, we're on fire.

    Engineer: Copy, Fernando, copy.

  19. Valtteri BOTTASKick Sauber

    Engineer: You're faster than Gasly

  20. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, just keep an eye on my left one, guys. It won't be, uh, another 20 lengths.

    Engineer: Understood, mate.

  21. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: And Lando, how are the tyres for the last few laps looking?

Lando NORRIS: Yeah, it's because I'm doing a better job with the tyres, but I need more help with this kind of stuff.

  22. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Sergio PEREZ: Oh, f***, I went down.

  23. George RUSSELLMercedes

Engineer: potentially some gravel entry turn 18 Perez has been off

  24. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Alexander ALBON: What's the goal here in this race?

    Engineer: Because

Alexander ALBON: I'm actually quicker than these people but I can't really do anything

    Engineer: So

Alexander ALBON: we're just behind these cars, what are you trying to do?

Engineer: Well we don't have a hard tyre, that's damaged We've got the stint 1 medium remaining

Alexander ALBON: Yeah that's not a great tyre If you think it's okay, maybe it was just a foul side

Engineer: Yeah understood, we don't have too many options I'm afraid

  25. Alexander ALBONWilliams

    Engineer: I

Alexander ALBON: think you're three turns under flap to it coming back to you um it's coming back to me yeah but I definitely have a lot once in and the first in like

    Engineer: a lot so

Alexander ALBON: I don't know whether I don't believe the knob is I think there is damage or something

  26. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: And Russell boxed, going to come out one and a half seconds behind us for info, he'll be on the hard tyre most likely, and we are racing him.

  27. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Alexander ALBON: Time to take a big hit!

  28. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Engineer: Oscar Degg on all cars looks higher than expected but we think this is plan B not plan C

  29. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Engineer: Oscar Degg on all cars looks higher than expected but we think this is plan B not plan C

  30. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: Peres came up that last corner like a rocket! Surprising!

    Engineer: Understood.

  31. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: I did ask to take out my wing.

    Engineer: Okay, copy.

  32. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Alexander ALBON: It just feels like we've put on another old Silsizer, feels like the same grip as it just left.

Engineer: Copy that, that's the eight laps from the first in.

  33. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Why am I so much slower than the guys behind?

Engineer: Lando, they're using their tyres a lot more than we are.

Lando NORRIS: Yeah, but I have no pace.

  34. Daniel RICCIARDORB

Daniel RICCIARDO: Yeah, real freaking bit of

    Engineer: a

    Daniel RICCIARDO: hit.

  35. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

    Engineer: My

Nico HULKENBERG: grip feels s**t That feels high

  36. Nico HULKENBERGHaas

Nico HULKENBERG: I feel like I'm having to push to keep temps

    Engineer: But

Nico HULKENBERG: at the same time sliding since there's an opportunity later

    Engineer: I

Nico HULKENBERG: might want to take that

    Engineer: Okay, understood

  37. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Alexander ALBON: I don't know if it helps Logan, but just run a really low B make and then just use a rotation to go for 7, 12. If you're struggling with others here in turn 7, go wide, it's better.

Engineer: Copy, I've taken that, thank you.

  38. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: There are three blue flags between yourself and Lando and Charles.

  39. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: Under safety car we would lose two position for info. You're doing a really good job.

  40. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: Last couple laps, Leclerc tried to push on a bit. Speak up! Leclerc tried to speed up a bit. The lap before he did a 21, last lap 20.5, so he's trying.

Lando NORRIS: Yep, me too, I'm trying, and he's a lot quicker.

  41. Fernando ALONSOAston Martin

Engineer: Can I just take your thoughts on aerobalance, aerobalance?

Fernando ALONSO: No, I think it's OK.

  42. Valtteri BOTTASKick Sauber

Engineer: Ocon is the car behind. His medium, sorry, hard tires are 16 laps older than yours.

    Valtteri BOTTAS: Older.

    Engineer: My mistake. Younger.

  43. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: You are the fastest car on track

  44. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Engineer: And Oscar, tyre update. Do you think the tyre will improve with clear air once we're through these blue flags?

Oscar PIASTRI: I hope so, otherwise it's going to be tricky.

  45. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: And Leclerc is now on Lando's tail.

  46. Yuki TSUNODARB

Yuki TSUNODA: Did I get gassed in the 10-7?

  47. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: Foot very inconsistent, slight of breath and a raise.

  48. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: Salute to the Frizz

  49. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: This is really good. Just keep the pressure on

  50. George RUSSELLMercedes

George RUSSELL: Yeah, it's nice. I just feel pretty poor now with this tyre.

  51. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Lewis HAMILTON: You're on the right wrist.

  52. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: The main loss is to Lando, turn 2, turn 6. Yeah, my tires don't work, mate. Just information, Max, that's all.

Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, same for me.

  53. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Verstappen is complaining about... I see, I see, I see. Okay. I'm for shipping.

  54. George RUSSELLMercedes

Engineer: George, would you be happy with stopping if we lost a position to Lewis? We've got a window to Perez currently that is still open.

George RUSSELL: Yeah, I don't mind. How do you wish? Keep with me. Babadim, would you switch at the end, or what

    Engineer: were

    George RUSSELL: you

Engineer: just pretending for? Negative. So just give me a minute. Nope. But

George RUSSELL: why would we bolt? I don't really get that.

Engineer: We're just concerned on getting these tyres to the end. But

George RUSSELL: I don't want to concede the position for no reason.

    Engineer: Stay out.

  55. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Engineer: So I guess the main thing to focus on now Max is as the gap is less than five seconds we really can't support any track limits so focus on that mate.

  56. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Engineer: and exit is clear behind we are going to retire the car box this lap confirm clear behind

  57. Alexander ALBONWilliams

Engineer: Alex, thank you for giving it everything today. Sorry we put you in that situation. I have to come back stronger than that. Hopefully there's some good learning and some things I've learned as well.

Alexander ALBON: Yeah, it was good to stay out there and kind of feel what the bricks are doing.

  58. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Good evening, let me buy even more stupid

  59. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: And Lando happy to push turn nine a little bit more. I'm pushing as much as I can, mate.

  60. ZHOU GuanyuKick Sauber

ZHOU Guanyu: Push me off, too! Eat the f***ing wall, Danny!

  61. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: Okay, let's push the end, get ourselves clear.

  62. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Battery is almost empty.

Engineer: If we want to top up the battery it would be mode 7 max, but you will clip more in mode 7.

  63. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

    Engineer: I

Max VERSTAPPEN: had to work for that, well anyway, we did a great race, considering how we can start it, you know, but I had to work hard for that. Well done mate, that was a very, very, very strong drive, that's two wins for you in

    Engineer: a

    Max VERSTAPPEN: day I think.

  64. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Lando NORRIS: Unlucky, almost, we just lost too much in the beginning but another amazing weekend, well done everyone, a lot of points, another trophy, let's keep it up!

  65. Lando NORRISMcLaren

Engineer: Driver of the day as well, mate.

Lando NORRIS: One or two more laps, sir. Well done, guys. Oh, it's frustrating not to win. Feels a bit more painful now.

  66. Max VERSTAPPENRed Bull

Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, that's the last we left Had to go flat out It

Engineer: was just really strange how their pace came to them in the last third of the race before that you had a totally covered on the medium and everything

Max VERSTAPPEN: Yeah, the hard tire just had no grip for me So yeah, we'll analyze it. The medium was very strong. Yeah, I guess the hard tires were just a bit out of the window for us

  67. Kevin MAGNUSSENHaas

Engineer: Super drive, Kev. Really fantastic drive. I'm just so sorry about qualifying. That was really fantastic. Well

Kevin MAGNUSSEN: done, mate. Yeah, thanks, guys. Hopefully luck will be on our side soon. I think the pace is there. We need to grab a point or two soon. Let's do it.

    Engineer: Absolutely, Kev. Absolutely. Absolutely.

Kevin MAGNUSSEN: Hi, Kev. It's Ayo here. Just wanted to say I think you drove really well today. Nice, really nice race. I'm sorry you couldn't get the pit stop timing right. You shouldn't have been stuck behind you. I think you had a decent chance to get the P10 today. Really good job. Thank you, Kev. Yeah, thanks, mate. Thanks, man. We'll get it right eventually. The car was good, so yeah, we have the tools. Just need to get it done. Well done, everyone. Thanks. Thanks for the effort.

    Engineer: Thanks

    Kevin MAGNUSSEN: for the effort.

  68. Charles LECLERCFerrari

Engineer: And P3, well done. You delivered well with the pace we had.

Charles LECLERC: Yeah, thank you. We struggled a little bit more in the second part of the hard, but really good job anyway. Obviously it was quite a challenge this weekend, but you did super well.

    Engineer: Good

Charles LECLERC: job and we'll keep working and I'm sure we'll get there.

Engineer: Yes, thank you very much. See you on the podium.

  69. Sergio PEREZRed Bull

Sergio PEREZ: Yeah, I think really went right this weekend. Sorry guys really really bad weekend We'll come back here next week

  70. Carlos SAINZFerrari

    Carlos SAINZ: Yeah.

  71. Carlos SAINZFerrari

Carlos SAINZ: Yeah, I didn't feel comfortable at all with the car there guys, there's something to look into, a lot of snaps, very difficult to drive. Yeah, saw you were struggling there. Yeah, let's have a look at what we saw after the call.

    Engineer: Copy.

  72. Oscar PIASTRIMcLaren

Engineer: The chequered flag, chequered flag Oscar, P4, great job.

Oscar PIASTRI: Yep, thanks everyone. I think that was the most we could have done today. Yep, good weekend, very, very competitive car, so thank you very much for that.

    Engineer: Yep,

Oscar PIASTRI: let's have some more weekends like that. We're getting closer, so thank you.

  73. Lewis HAMILTONMercedes

Engineer: Well done Lewis, that's a P6 mate. That was a really strong pace, especially on that hard tyre. Matching Verstappen, even with just a three lap offset, so that was really good.

Lewis HAMILTON: Thanks Bono. Yeah, Kyle was coming good. Still some work to do though. Let's keep pushing guys, thanks to the upgrades this weekend. Good points for the team. Who won?

Engineer: So yeah, Verstappen managed to win, but Norris gave him a good run for his money. He was just 0.7 behind on the line. Then Leclerc P3, Piastri, Sainz, then yourself, George behind, and Perez P8.

Lewis HAMILTON: Sorry for that lock up, lost a lot of time doing that.

Engineer: Yeah, copy. Yeah, that would have been five seconds up the road. But yeah, otherwise pace was really strong. Really, really happy with that.

  74. Lance STROLLAston Martin

Engineer: Well done mate, that's P9, that's P9, that's a good race, well done. Yeah, good race, good

Lance STROLL: recovery at the end.

  75. Valtteri BOTTASKick Sauber

    Engineer: So we finished P18?

Valtteri BOTTAS: Yep. Yeah, that state was a bit too long. Couldn't hold on anymore.

Engineer: Yeah, understood. You did a good job defending on those guys with much younger tires than us.

  76. Logan SARGEANTWilliams

Engineer: So P17, not an easy race with all the blue flags and in the dirt here most of the race came alive, definitely, towards the end. The pace was really good at the end. Yeah that was tough with all the blues and that first in. Yeah you fought well Logan, there was a bit more in it, you can see the few cars in front of you but still very well done and lots of learning to take forward.

  77. Pierre GASLYAlpine

Engineer: So that's P16 mate, tough one out there tonight. Where did Ricardo finish? So Ricardo finished P13, Esteban ahead in P14 on the one stop. We lost about 20 seconds with all the blue flags and

Pierre GASLY: we didn't even mention it once ahead

Engineer: of the race, so a bit confused with what we've done. Cars all the way up to P10 were lapped by the top three.

  78. ZHOU GuanyuKick Sauber

Engineer: Good job, we finished P15.

ZHOU Guanyu: So it was ok what he did, pushed me into the grass, almost crashing into the wall on the offside.

Engineer: Yeah job, we report to the steward. And no action was taken on that.

  79. Esteban OCONAlpine

Engineer: OK mate, P14, not an easy one there.

Esteban OCON: Yeah, no, it was too difficult to keep everyone behind or even to attack, I couldn't do anything, so... No, we were stuck. Lots to work on for this one and we didn't have the pace, unfortunately.

  80. Daniel RICCIARDORB

Daniel RICCIARDO: All right, we'll get ready for next week. Obviously, congrats to Yuki on the point. We'll try to get both in there next week.

  81. Yuki TSUNODARB

Yuki TSUNODA: Yeah, well done guys Yeah starts have to look into that for sure for sure that starts compromise our race, but well done Thanks also to the team Who come to the track

    Engineer: Very

Yuki TSUNODA: happy that they were able

    Engineer: to

Yuki TSUNODA: score points in a home race.

    Engineer: Yeah, absolutely
