Lewis Hamilton's 2026 season, measured: the first Ferrari win, and thirteen points finishes in a row
Lewis Hamilton won for Ferrari in Barcelona, 686 days after his previous victory, and scored in the first thirteen races of 2026 before his brakes failed in Madrid. Every race, and what he said on the radio.
On 14 June in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton won a Grand Prix in a Ferrari. It was the 106th win of his career and his first in 686 days.
He did it with an aggressive undercut and a well-timed stop under the virtual safety car, and held on while Kimi Antonelli, running second, stopped with four laps to go. George Russell finished second and Lando Norris third: the first all-British podium in Formula 1 since the 1968 United States Grand Prix.

The season in numbers

5 podiums: third in China, second in Canada and Monaco, the win in Barcelona, and third at Silverstone, the race he has won a record nine times (every British Grand Prix since 2000).
13 points finishes in a row from the opening race, and never lower than sixth in any of them.
191 points, 171 from Grands Prix and 20 from sprints, which puts him third behind Antonelli on 292 and Russell on 211.
His sprints: third in China, seventh in Miami, sixth in Canada, second at Silverstone after starting the sprint from pole, and seventh at Zandvoort.
Barcelona
The win came from second on the grid, and from strategy as much as speed. Ferrari took the undercut, made a well-timed stop under the virtual safety car, and then asked him for seven all-out laps on his tyres. His engineer told him plainly what was at stake:
"This is our race. Give everything these seven laps. It's the critical moment."
The message after the flag is the one people will remember. He thanked the team in Italian and English, then the factory, then his family, and then the fans, "for continuing to remind me who I am".
A minute later: "For the Ferrari! Guys, thank you for those great pit stops as well."
Hamilton finished second in Monaco, and his radio afterwards explains more about him than the result does. He apologised to the team for not winning, twice, and then thanked them anyway:

Madrid: the streak ends in five words
Thirteen races of points ended a few laps into the first Grand Prix at the Madring:
"I don't have brakes, guys." He retired with a brake failure. Kimi Antonelli won the race.
The most polite man on the grid
Hamilton is the second most heard driver on Formula 1's radio this season, with 77 broadcast messages from Canada onward, behind only Antonelli on 85. What makes his count different is what is in it.
When we counted every broadcast line of 2026, Hamilton appeared near the top of both the apologies and the thanks. He said sorry on air four times, second only to Oliver Bearman, and thanked his team six times, second only to Arvid Lindblad. The full count is in what F1 drivers actually say on the radio.
For a driver with seven world titles and 106 wins, that is not a small thing to notice.
