Alex Albon's 2026 season, measured: 100 races for Williams, five points, and a contract to 2027
Alex Albon became the first driver to start 100 races for Williams in 2026, in a season with five points, four retirements and a start he never made in China. In August the team extended his contract to 2027. Every race, measured, and the radio.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix in July, Alex Albon started his 100th race for Williams, the first driver to reach that number for the team. Weeks later Williams extended his contract to the end of 2027.
The season around that milestone has been one of the hardest of his career. Albon has five points from fourteen races, all of them scored by the end of May: tenth in Miami and eighth at Monaco. He did not start in China, has retired four times, and no Williams has finished in the top ten since Monaco. He is seventeenth in the championship, one point behind his team mate Carlos Sainz.

The season in numbers
5 points, seventeenth in the championship: one for tenth in Miami, four for eighth at Monaco.
0 points in the eight races since Monaco, and no finish higher than fifteenth.
1 start missed: a hydraulic problem on the way to the grid in China.
4 retirements: Canada, Barcelona, Silverstone and Zandvoort, where he stopped late but was still classified.
Best grid position: 11th, at Monaco, the only time he has started outside the bottom half.
No sprint points: his best sprint was sixteenth, in China and at Zandvoort.
China
Albon's season went wrong early. In Shanghai, Williams changed the suspension on his car after qualifying, a breach of parc ferme rules that meant a start from the pit lane. Then, on the laps to the grid, the team found a hydraulic problem it could not fix, and he did not start at all. Monaco
His best result came where the car mattered least. Albon qualified eleventh, his best grid slot of the year, and finished eighth. Mid-race he questioned a call from the pit wall:

In the six races both Williams drivers finished, it is three each: Albon ahead in Melbourne, Spa and Hungary, Sainz ahead at Suzuka, in Miami and at Monza. Sainz has one more point, six against five, from three ninth places in the first five rounds. Neither has scored since Monaco. Sainz's season is measured in Carlos Sainz's 2026, and the team's in Williams' 2026.
The contract
Albon joined Williams in 2022 after two seasons at Red Bull, where he took both of his career podiums in 2020. In August 2026 the team extended his contract by a year, to the end of 2027. "One tough year doesn't tell the full picture," he said, and team principal James Vowles called him "one of the best drivers on the grid".
