Twenty-seven Hungarian Grands Prix have been held at the Hungaroring since 2000. Lewis Hamilton won eight, pole won only eleven, and the race has produced a remarkable run of first wins, from Alonso in 2003 to Ocon in 2021 and Piastri in 2024. Every winner, grid slot and safety car, measured.
The Hungaroring is supposed to be a circuit where you cannot pass. Since 2000, pole has won there only eleven times in twenty-seven races.
That is fewer than half, and fewer than at Monza. Strategy calls, rain and safety cars have decided many of the others. Lewis Hamilton has won it eight times. And few races have produced as many memorable first wins: Fernando Alonso in 2003, Jenson Button from fourteenth in 2006, Heikki Kovalainen in 2008, Esteban Ocon in 2021 and Oscar Piastri in 2024.
Twenty-five Japanese Grands Prix have been held since 2000, all at Suzuka except two at Fuji. Pole won seventeen, Max Verstappen won four in a row from 2022, and Kimi Raikkonen won from seventeenth in 2005 with a last-lap pass. Every winner, grid slot and safety car, measured.

The 2006 race was wet, and several front-runners crashed or retired. Jenson Button, fourteenth on the grid after an engine penalty, came through to win for Honda. It was his first Grand Prix win, at his 113th start.
A first-lap crash triggered by Valtteri Bottas in the wet took out several cars and brought a red flag. At the restart the track was drying, and every car except Lewis Hamilton's pitted for slicks at the end of the formation lap. Hamilton started alone on the grid and fell to last. Esteban Ocon, eighth on the original grid, found himself leading, and held on for Alpine's first win, with Fernando Alonso holding Hamilton back behind him. His engineer:
"Yes guys! Well done mate! You just won the Hungarian Grand Prix!" Ocon's 2026, at Haas, is measured in Esteban Ocon's 2026.
Oscar Piastri led for most of the 2024 race until McLaren pitted Lando Norris first, which put Norris ahead. The team asked Norris to give the lead back, and for several laps he did not. His engineer:
"the way to win a championship is not by yourself it's with the team". Norris let Piastri through with two laps left, and Piastri took his first Grand Prix win.
Norris won the 2026 race from pole, with Max Verstappen second and Kimi Antonelli third. At the flag:
"car was unbelievable today. Well done, guys. Incredible." His season is measured in Lando Norris's 2026.
