Every Chinese Grand Prix winner, measured: Hamilton's six, and where Kimi Antonelli won for the first time
Nineteen Chinese Grands Prix have been held in Shanghai since 2004. Lewis Hamilton won six, pole won twelve, and in 2026 Kimi Antonelli took the first win of his career there, at 19, with Hamilton on the podium for Ferrari for the first time. Every winner, grid slot and safety car, measured.
In March 2026, Kimi Antonelli converted pole at the Chinese Grand Prix into the first win of his Formula 1 career, at 19. Lewis Hamilton finished third, his first Grand Prix podium for Ferrari.
Shanghai has been good to both of them. Hamilton has won the Chinese Grand Prix six times, more than anyone. Antonelli's win there started a season in which he has won eight of the first fourteen races. Nineteen races have been held at the Shanghai International Circuit since 2004, with a four-year gap from 2020 to 2023, and pole has won twelve.

2006 and 2018: winning from sixth
In 2006, in changing conditions, Michael Schumacher came from sixth to win for Ferrari. It was the 91st and last Grand Prix win of his career. Twelve years later, Daniel Ricciardo used a safety car to pit for fresh tyres and passed car after car to win from sixth for Red Bull. His engineer at the flag:
"that was absolutely clinical"
2025: a one-two and three disqualifications
Oscar Piastri won the 2025 race from pole with Lando Norris second, nursing a failing brake pedal to the flag. Norris's engineer, late in the race:
"I'd rather finish second than not at all. No hard braking." After the race both Ferraris and Pierre Gasly's Alpine were disqualified: Charles Leclerc and Gasly for underweight cars, Hamilton for plank wear. Piastri at the flag:
"Yeah, mega job, guys. Mega, mega job."
2026: Antonelli's first
Antonelli took pole and won, the second-youngest Grand Prix winner in history and the first Italian winner since Giancarlo Fisichella in 2006. George Russell was second and Hamilton third, clearing both Mercedes at the first corner before Antonelli took the lead back.
